Summary

Zenless Zone Zerois now out and available to play, and it’s been a relatively smooth launch so far. You have complaints coming from certain people about difficulty and performance (and amazement over a cat with comically large balls), but there seems to be general satisfaction from the community about Mihoyo’s next big gacha title. There are some dissenting opinions floating around though, some of which claiming Zenless Zone Zero would have been better off without the gacha system in place at all.

This opinion comes from Reddit user Romi_Z in a thread on the game’s official subreddit, talking about some of the more controversial opinions fans have had about their experience so far. Romi_Z’s desire for a game from Mihoyo that doesn’t have any gacha mechanics is one of the most upvoted comments in the entire thread, and it’s not the most uncommon request that Mihoyo fans have had over the years.

Reddit user NoOne215 even expressed their desire for Mihoyo to focus on a single player game similar to how Shift Up moved over toStellar Blade. Like Mihoyo, Shift Up’s previous game before Stellar Blade was a fairly popular gacha game called Goddess of Victory: Nikke, proving that developers of these gacha titles are more than capable of making their own big, premium titles.

Zenless Zone Zero Fans Wish It Didn’t Have Gacha Mechanics

Reddit user Namamodaya adds their opinion to the mix, explaining that they wish Mihoyo would make “a story that ends”, while user Imaginary_Ambition thinks that the amount of gacha games out there at the moment is starting to “become very overwhelming,” claiming they don’t like having to delete them due to storage constraints or lack of time.

Those that like Mihoyo’s game will be aware that calls for a premium game from the developer aren’t new, though Zenless Zone Zero’s higher focus on personality and the quality of animation is amplifying the opinion a little more than withGenshin ImpactandHonkai Star Rail. You also have people that don’t mind Zenless Zone Zero’s focus on gacha, enjoying the fact they’re free and providing you with a lot more content than a standard video game release can, so it’s not a widespread opinion.

Still, it would be interesting to see what Mihoyo could do with a premium title given the chance, and while it obviously wouldn’t make as much money as a Genshin Impact or a Zenless Zone Zero, it would surely be a fun experiment at the very least. God knows it has the cash to do it.
