Fallout Londonhas been in a tricky spot this past month, as after several years of hard work and graft,Bethesdamanaged to blow plans for the unofficial expansion wildly off course witha half-baked next-gen update. It meant that the team behind the projecthad to delay the mod from its intended release dateto work through the issues the next-gen update has caused, and we still don’t have an updated release date just yet.
We finally received some good news a few days ago though, asFallout London devs revealed that the mod is now in the testing phase at distributor GOG, but they’ve now added a stipulation for anyone that wants to try out the mod when it finally releases. It seems as though Bethesda’s big update for Fallout 4 was so broken, that the game now “isn’t stable enough” to get Fallout London working properly.
You’ll Have To Downgrade Fallout 4 To Play Fallout London
To remedy this, Fallout London devs are now asking players to downgrade their copies of Fallout 4 to the version of the game prior to Bethesda’s next-gen update (thanks PC Gamer). In a conversation on theofficial Fallout London Discord server, it was admitted that the devs found out at “the 11th hour” that the next-gen version of Fallout 4 is too unstable for Fallout London, and has been working on a downgrader to launch alongside the mod.
After catching a little bit of heat for asking people to downgrade despite the delay, Fallout London PR manager Jon Fallout explained that the delay was mainly to “ensure it would be available to as many people as possible” and that the decision to release the version of Fallout 4 before the next-gen patch “was always there.” They also reassure fans that the time spent during the delay has “been used wisely.”
Downgrading Fallout 4 might seem like a bit of a pain in the rear, with Fallout London’s team doing everything it can to ensure downloads are smooth. For example, it seems as though the GOG version of Fallout London will have a built-in downgrader, so it might be best to download the mod there if you don’t want to go through that extra step yourself. It may also be best to do a clean installation of Fallout 4 to ensure no existing mods you may have forgotten about mess anything up.
It’s also a completely free mod, so you might want to lay off the developers if you’re upset about a relatively short delay. Whatever you decide to do, the wait for Fallout London shouldn’t take too much longer, and with the mod in the final stretch of development, we should be exploring the Ghoul-riddled streets of London sooner rather than later.
