Xboxbroke the internet last week when it revealed its latest console giveaway is Deadpool & Wolverine-themed. Not because that alone is a great idea with the movie hitting theaters this week, but because the controllers it comes withhave Deadpool’s backside sculpted into the back of them. As a reminder that the third installment inMarvel’s Deadpool trilogy is as much about Wolverine as it is about The Merc With A Mouth, Xbox has now revealed a matching Wolverine controller to go along with it.
Residents of Edmonton, Alberta may have found out about the cheeky Wolverine controller before the rest of us as the unique design was technically revealed via a billboard in the Canadian town. The billboard features the controller with a miniature Deadpool sitting comfortably between the cheeks, or maybe it’s a giant controller with a regular-sized Deadpool.
I’m assuming Alberta was selected for the reveal since that’s where Wolverine is from. Plus, Deadpool is canonically from the nearby town of Saskatchewan. These two really should have had matching bum controllers sooner.
Unfortunately, Wolverine doesn’t appear to have a matchingSeries Xlike Deadpool does which leans into the narrative Xbox is spinning that this controller was whipped up over the weekend due to fans demanding Wolverine get a butt controller too. The quality of the design and the billboard in Canada suggests otherwise, though I do like the idea of stressed Xbox executives frantically on the phone demanding all other projects are paused so all focus can go to making a Wolverine bum controller as fast as possible.
I Long For The Day When All My Controllers Come With This Much Cake
The sweepstake for the Wolverine controller isn’t open yet, so it’s unclear how many of these Xbox has to give away. Xbox has simply told people to keep an eye onMicrosoft’s Instagram accountwhere a post with the hashtag #MicrosoftCheekySweepstakes will pop up, presumably very soon. Hopefully there will be a lot of them as it’s already very clear that a lot of people want this controller.
As amusing as it and the Deadpool controllers are, they’re the latest in a string of limited edition giveaways by Xbox that have me and so many others tearing our hair out. While the consoles themselves being limited to sweepstakes makes sense, if the controllers that come with them were to go on sale, in almost every instance they would make so much money. The Deadpool, and now Wolverine, butt controllers might be the best examples of that so far. Bundle these controllers together for $150 and I’m there day one, throwing money at you for both.
