House of the Dragon’sseason two finale touched on some of the most enduring mysteries of A Song of Ice and Fire, like the identity of The Prince That Was Promised in Aegon’s prophecy. Not only that, we also get glimpses of the Three-Eyed Raven, and how Brynden Rivers managed to become such a powerful greenseer.

Regardless, Aegon’s prophecy never mentioned the exact identity of the prince, and most prophecies are interpretable in many ways. Daemon’s visions in the Godswood of Harrenhal give a vague answer though, and can be looked at as indirect confirmation of the character the prophecy talked about.

Aegon’s Prophecy

Aegon’s prophecy, also known as the Song of Ice and Fire, is the main story ofGame of Thronesand House of the Dragon, and it is a major part of the lore of Westeros. It foretells the arrival of a Targaryen savior, The Prince That Was Promised, who will unite the realm against the darkness— the White Walkers.

Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen king, received this prophecy in a dream, and passed it down through his lineage while he was out conquering the realm. It speaks of a long night, where cold winds willcover the land in an inescapable winterand the dead will walk.

While its exact interpretation is debated, the prophecy has driven many Targaryen actions, including Rhaenyra Targaryen’s war to reclaim the Iron Throne in House of the Dragon. The ambiguity of the prophecy alsoallows for multiple interpretations, like variations in the Lord of Light’s prophecy. The identity of the princewas never explicitely revealed, only implied.

Who Is The Prince That Was Promised In Game Of Thrones?

The identity of The Prince That Was Promisedis a heavily debated topic in the Song of Ice and Fire fandom. The prophecy speaks of a savior who will rise to fight against the darkness. Traditionally, it was believed that this figure would be male, but in the later seasons,we learn that in Valyrian it can also be interpreted as Princess, giving Daenerys the potential to be the chosen one as well.

Both Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow havecompelling claims to this title. Daenerys fulfills many aspects of the prophecy, and is like no other Targaryen before her, including Aegon himself. She commands three dragonsand is a just and merciful ruler as well, freeing slaves in Essos while building her armyto take back the Iron Throne.

John Snow also fits certain criteria, such as being a Targaryenand the one that has been fighting the Night Kingsince the start, with the show building up to their showdown. He has Stark blood as well, which fits the title of the prophecy, being of both ice and fire.

The series leaves the answersomewhat ambiguous. Some believe it could be one or the other,or even both, working together. Ultimately, the prophecy’s interpretation is subjective, but House of the Dragon gives us what seems to bethe confirmation of the Prince’s identity.

Daemon’s Vision

The Prince referred to in Daemon’s vision is most likely Daenerys Targaryen. We see her with her newly hatched dragons, symbolizing her power andpotential role as the Princess who was promised.

However, it’s important to note that the visiondoesn’t explicitly confirm her as the Princess. It’s a representation of her importance and the crucial role she will play in the future of Westeros, just likewhen Rhaenyra showed up in Daemon’s visions as well.
