In the world ofHouse of the Dragon, Seasmoke is a beautiful silver dragon with a reputation for being swift, but is also one of the smaller dragons in Westeros. Initially, Seasmoke was bonded to Laenor Velaryon, son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen. Laenor was a skilled warrior, dragonrider, and husband of Rhaenyra and, he shared a close bond with Seasmoke.

After years in the Red Keep, Laenor decides to fake his own death in the first season to escape the political turmoil of Westeros and pursue a life of freedomfor both him and Rhaenyra as well, so she can marry Daemon Targaryen. Seasmoke was unfortunately not included and was left without a rider. In recent episodes, the dragon becomes restless because chances are that Laenor might’ve possibly died off-screen, which allows Seasmoke to be claimed by another.

Who Is Seasmoke’s New Rider?

In the latest episode of House of the Dragon,the quest to find a new rider for Seasmokefinally starts after Jacaerys councils his mother to find Dragonseeds with Targaryen blood to attempt a bonding.

Rhaenyra encourages Ser Steffon Darklyn, a knight of the Queensguard withextremely diluted Valyrian blood and some ties to the Targaryen house, to bond with the dragon. The hope is that hislineage would make him a suitable candidate.

However,the attempt proves disastrous. Despite Steffon’s courage and determination, Seasmoke rejects him violently,breathing fire and burning him to death.

Undeterred by the tragedy, Seasmoke takes flight, seemingly on a mission of its own. The dragon’s instincts lead it toAddam of Hull, a young manwho is Corlys Velaryon’s bastard son.

Addam initiallyruns away at the sight of Seasmoke, but by the end of the episode, he has supposedlyclaimed the dragonand is now one of the most powerful men in the seven kingdoms.

Despite his initial lack of noble birth, Addam’s loyalty to Rhaenyra earns him recognition and respect. He iseventually legitimized by Rhaenyra, becoming Addam Velaryon and heir to Driftmark.

Addam Velaryon In The Books

Addam in Fire and Blood is driven by a desire to prove his worthandsecure a place for himself in the world, which is actually mirrored in the show as well. He seizes opportunities just like theopportunity to tame Seasmoke, ultimately rising to become a dragonrider and aprominent figure in the Dance of the Dragons.

After aiding in many battles in Rhaenyra’s name, Addam’s demisewas met as a tragic consequence of the two betrayalsof the other two dragonseeds, Hugh Hammer and Ulf White.

These two dragonseeds,initially loyal to Rhaenyra Targaryen, betray her with Hugh declaring himself king and Ulf siding with the Greens during the Dance of the Dragons. Their betrayal is a significant blow to Rhaenyra’s forces,as they take their dragons, Silverwing and Vermithor,with them.

Later, it’s reported thatAddam and Seasmoke were killed in battle against Vermithorin the second battle of Tumbleton, ashe sacrificed himself to save his menfrom being burned alive while Vermithor indiscriminately rained fire on everyone.
