The First Descendantpresents three character options for you to choose from when you start the game; Ajax, Lepic, and Viessa. All three of these characters are simple enough to use for new players, but their playstyle can vary, providing some unique variations.
Can’t decide who to play as? In this guide, we are going to take a look at each of these three characters, including their four main skills. Overall, our goal is to look at which type of player each character is suited for, helping you come to your decision. Remember, you are not tied to just this character forever; more can be obtained.

Overview Of The First Descendant Starting Characters
Ajax, Lepic, and Viessaall bring something different to the table. Below, you can check out a quick overview of each one.
Tank character that is capable of protecting allies
High-HP character that throws grenades
Debuff character who can freeze/slow enemies
Ajax
As a tank character, Ajax is great forcreating barriers. For the first few portions of the game, you will have access to all four of his skills, but once you truly begin, they will unlock with each level. As such, ‘Orbit Barrier’ will be your only skill for a short period of time. This is a skill thatcreates a barrier and inflicts Reflection Damage rather than direct DPS.
While this is great for staying alive, those who tend to play solo or have another friend playing Ajax might not find this as useful. Still, Ajax is a great choice if youfavor working synergetically with a team to protect everyone. As an added bonus, Ajax can stilldeal some heavy damage, especially with his passive that can boost skill power and effects.
Lepic
Next, we have Lepic. Unlike Ajax, Lepic’s first skill is a direct DPS ability, causing him to throw a grenade which deals Burst damage. If you are a fan of characters that primarilyfocus on dealing heavy damage, then Lepic is the choice for you.
Lepic is also agreat option for those who are not too familiar with third-person shooters,or shooting games in general. His passive, called ‘Close Call’ gives him the chance tosurvive fatal damage during a battle, which is obviously very useful.
Viessa
Lastly, we have Viessa. This character has the role of Debuffer, which means thather skills (both active and passive) have the power to Chill enemies.Viessa has aquick playstyle, especially when looking at her second skill, ‘Frost Road’. This will create a sheet of ice as Viessa walks, which chills enemies that walk on it too.
While Viessa can deal some damage, you’ll also need tounderstand how her Ice Shackles work in relation to all of the skills available.Overall, she does havea bit less damage than both Ajax and Lepic, so if you are going for pure DPS, then she may not be the best option.
Who Should You Choose?
So, with all of this in mind, who should you choose? First, let’s quickly mention thatyou can truly pick any one of these characters and still have an enjoyable time;there is no ‘correct’ opinion. With that out of the way, let’s look at who may have a slight edge.
Overall, for damage and survivability, we suggest choosing Ajax. This tank can still deal high levels of damage, especially when considering his passive, ‘Void Energy’. This will charge energy to a certain point; once this point is hit,Ajax’s skills become even stronger with varying new effects.
If you don’t really like Ajax (or are new to the game’s genre), then Lepic is another good option. He candeal high DPS, which is essential in pretty much every shooting game.Viessa isn’t a bad pick, butyou may find yourself dealing less damage than others if you play as her.
