Summary

HBO’sHouse of the Dragonhas taken the magical and supernatural elements from Game of Thrones and cranked it up to eleven this season. There are a lot of things to unpack and understand to get the full picture of the story, and one of the key plot points throughout the season is Daemon’s stay at Harrenhal, where he is plagued by visions and ghosts of the past.

In the season two finale of House of the Dragon, the visions reach a peak. Daemon Targaryen experiences a series of prophetic memories in the Godswood of Harrenhal, with the help of Alys Rivers. These visions offer glimpses into the future, connecting the events of House of the Dragon to its sequel series,Game of Thrones.

The Three-Eyed Raven

After touching the sacred Weirwood tree in Harrenhal, Daemon witnesses what looks to be a character resemblingthe Three-Eyed Raven from Game of Thrones, who possesses the ability to see through the weirwood treesscattered throughout Westeros, and witness history itself.

While the identity of this figure in Daemon’s visionisn’t explicitly confirmed,it looks to be Brynden Rivers, one of the great Targaryen bastards. Heserves as the hand of the kingto multiple kings beforebecoming Lord Commander of the Night’s Watchand then disappearing on a trip beyond the wall.

Daemon’s visions show himembedding himself into a weirwood treeand becoming theThree Eyed Ravenwe see in Game of Thrones. His role in the fight against the White Walkers is essential, and it will be better explored in the Dunk and Egg TV show.

The White Walkers

Following the Three Eyed Raven,Daemon witnesses a dead dragonand blood everywhere, followed by the White Walkers, the undead beings that threaten to destroy all living things in Game of Thrones.

This vision shows that the true threat tocivilization in Westeros is the White Walkersand suggests that the current conflict of the Dance of the Dragons and the battle of succession of Rhaenyra against Aegonis miniscule in the grand scheme of things. It is but one chapter in alarger struggle for survival.

Daenerys Targaryen And Her Baby Dragons

Daemon then sees Daenerys Targaryen, a descendant of his house, emerging from the flameswith her newly hatched dragons. This vision solidifies Daenerys’s role as a Targaryen savior andpossibly the princess that was promisedfrom Aegon’s dream.

It also emphasizes the importance of dragons in the Targaryen legacy,as the dragons had gone extinct shortly after the danceandDaenerys’s dragons were the first to hatch after centuries. The vision is basically Daemon getting a spoilerfor the season one finale of Game of Thrones.

Helaena’s Connection

Finally,Daemon witnesses Rhaenyra on the iron throne, showing that she will be the queen that will unite the seven kingdoms once againafter the Blacks are victorious. In a surprising twist, Helaena Targaryen, Daemon’s niece and a known dreamer, appears in his vision, being a bit more straightforward with her cryptic words this time.

“It’s all a story. And you’re but one part in it."- Helaena to Daemon

She tells Daemon that everything happeningis part of a larger story, with a climax that is yet to come, while also telling Aemond about his death in the God’s Eye. After witnessing all these visions,Daemon abandons his own pursuit of the iron throneand completelydedicates himself to Rhaenyra, as the visions imply that the future will only be secureas long as Rhaenyra becomes queen.
