For the majority of our time spent withCat Quest 3, we had no clue what to do with the bubbling water spots located near a fair number of the game’s island destinations. It was bewildering. Due to Cat Quest 3’s open-world nature, however, it’s possible to get this sorted out early on.

That said, obtaining the Shell Phone necessary for interacting with these buzzing bubbles means dealing with some relatively high-level foes. We’ll point you in their direction, let you know what to do once you’re there, and get you on the road - or rather, sea - to obtain some neat treasure.

How To Get The Shell Phone

So, you’ll need a key item called theShell Phonein order to properly interact with the bubbles. Until you have this in your inventory, you’ll still be able to press a button when swimming over them, but you’ll only get a cryptic bit of buzzing noise.

To acquire the Shell Phone, sail to the large landmass up north in the Sunset Islands. You’ll find a unique-looking NPCtrapped behind a barricade guarded by powerful enemies. Or rather, powerful if you’re notat least level 40 or so.

There’s aniron gate facing the shoreline and a fancy treasure chest beside the NPC,in case you’re having a difficult time discerning the precise location.

Once you’ve handled the enemies, blast the barricade with your ship’s cannonballsand talk to the NPC, who is called thePurrmaid. You’ll need toswim into the pool of water she’s infirst.

As a reward for your gallant act,the Purrmaid will hand you the Shell Phone. With this, you canreturn to any bubbles you’ve found, swim over them, and the former crackling noise will be replaced with a treasure.

That’s all you’ve got to do! Easy enough, but as we’ve said, also easy to miss until toward the end of the main quest.
