Fatshark has announced thatWarhammer: Vermintide 2’s long-awaited Versus Mode has been released into open beta.
Versus was first announced back in 2019 and is now finally available to try. It’s a 4v4 PVP+E game mode where teams alternate between playing as the Ubersreik Five and the Pactsworn. Each member of the former has highly customisable builds so players can pursue their unique playstyles.
The Pactsworn will be able to utilise the full arsenal of the Skaven’s special classes, meaning you can play as a Ratling Gunner, Packmaster, Gas Rat and so on. It’s going to be exciting to see how the meta plays out and which specials end up being the most powerful.
4v4 Vermintide Action
The mode itself is a sort of streamlined version of PvE Vermintide 2, the Ubersreik Five have objectives to complete and the Pactsworn team must foil them. According to the beta announcement trailer released by Fatshark, regular Vermintide 2 maps have been modified to make them more appropriate for PvP gameplay.
A closed alpha for Versus mode was held earlier this year, and one of the common balance criticisms that emerged was how difficult it was to make damage stick on the Ubersreik Five, who naturally tended towards ranged characters as melee characters are more vulnerable to Pactsworn attacks.
There were also complaints that regular AI-controlled hoarders were on ‘Recruit’ difficulty, making it very easy for the team playing the Ubersreik Five to stop themselves from being overwhelmed.
Fatshark released ablog postoutlining some of the changes the team has made in the interim. Pactsworn players can now summon their own mini-hordes to cover their approaches, adding some strategy to the gameplay loop. Health supplies have also been placed in more visible and vulnerable locations, allowing for Pactsworn to potentially set up ambushes to catch injured heroes unaware.
