Summary
In case you missed it,Star Wars Outlawshas some pretty nasty game-breaking bugs on thePlayStation 5. Those bugs promptedUbisofttosend an email requesting players to update their version of the game, as well as begin a new save file to “fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended.”
And if you don’t?
“If you continue on a prior save you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers.”
While the full game won’t be released until tomorrow (Aug. 30), numerous players have been playing the game earlyvia the Gold Edition ($109.99) and Ultimate Edition ($129.99). In other words, these are hardcoreStar Warsfanatics, the kind that are paying big money to play early. They are also the ones being impacted the most by having to restart from scratch.
And so, in order to make up for it,Ubisoft has given PS5 players an in-game trinket and 100 Ubisoft Connect Units, a currency forin-game items or other Ubisoft rewards.
Yep, that’s it. A trinket and some made-up money. Again, these are gamers who shelled out good money to play early, and as expected, they’re not happy.
“Another Reason To Never Buy Early Access”
Taking to the Star Wars Outlaws subreddit, numerous PS5 players made their frustrations known in a megathread detailing Ubisoft’s consolation gift.
One gamer reported that they had lost 15 hours of progress due to the forced restart. Elsewhere, another player shared the unfortunate situation they found themselves in, writing"I’m 20hrs in with three maxed out experts and max affinity with Pyles and all others at good standing. This makes me just want to pack it in."
Another user took issue with the “free gift,” commenting, “For 100 ubi credits and a trinket they may as well have the devs ambush you with paintball guns.” That sentiment wasechoed by a separate player, who wrote, “Those credits are worthless. Basically, anyone who paid to play early lost all progress and has to start anew, losing out on the early access benefit.”
No matter which way you look at it, the end result is a load of unhappy players. Had the game worked as intended, then there would be no upset players or need for a compensatory item. But it didn’t, and what’s being given clearly doesn’t make up for the fact that people shelled out more than the standard cost of an AAA game only to be told to restart.
