Star Wars Outlawsis currently available for players who pre-ordered the game, ahead of a full worldwide release on August 30. However, early access may not have been the boon that people might’ve thought as PlayStation 5 players have now been asked to erase their progress and start over by publisherUbisoft.
On PlayStation 5, a new patch (1.000.002) was deployed and accompanying the rollout was an email from Ubisoft to owners of the Star Wars Outlaws. The email begins by asking players to ensure they are playing on the latest version, but the ending of the email has proved controversial among early-access players.
“To best experience the Outer Rim, we rolled out a maintenance to ensure everyone is playing the latest version of the game. As one of the players affected who had access to an older version of the game, we are aware you might be encountering some issues after the recent patch. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. […] Once you’ve confirmed you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended. If you continue on a prior save, you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers,” the email reads.
What’s 5 More Hours With Kay & Nix?
This issue appears to be specific to PlayStation 5 players, as there have been no reports of these emails being sent out to Xbox and PC players. Unfortunately, the players currently playing Star Wars Outlaws purchased the Gold Edition of the game, meaning they’ve invested $100 only to lose hours of progress.
Players on X (formerly Twitter) have reported playing 4-5 hours before receiving the email from Ubisoft. As outlined by Ubisoft, if they continue to play on these saves they will inevitably run into trouble further down the line.
“The game updated this morning when I had 30 minutes played. Now that I’ve played 4 hours, you email me telling me to start a new save,“one player complained.
Star Wars Outlaws has received middling reviews from critics, with our own Jade King saying Outlaws had a “lacklustre story, a bizarre lock of polish for a production of this scale, and a main character that isn’t the step forward she should have been,” in their3.5/5 review.
