The first case of theAce Attorney Investigationscollection begins with a veritable bang. For this being Miles Edgeworth’s first solo game, it sure doesn’t behave with kindness towards him - the first glimpse we get of our protagonist is being held at gunpoint in his own office - talk about stress!

Thankfully, this is something of a tutorial case both in length and in difficulty. It won’t take long to get to grips with investigating crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, and solving the murder presented in front of you. If you’re having any trouble with the logic required here, however, we’ve got you covered.

Investigating Edgeworth’s office in Ace Attorney Investigations.

Investigation: High Prosecutors' Offices - Room 1202

Before this investigation kicks off in earnest, you’ll be given a quicktutorialto Edgeworth’slogic mechanic. Hit thelogic buttonat the top of the screen and perform the following combination:

Investigating the prosectors' office hallway in Ace Attorney Investigations.

After this and the rest of the introduction, you’ll be allowed to explore the office and examine objects freely. Examine the following points of interest:

Once you’ve examined these two areas (and the sub-areas near the body), it’s time to make some deductions.

Victim was a detective

The revolver

After pairing the first two clues together, you’ll need toexamine the revolver. Choose to examine thecylinder of chamberswith ammo in them, and you’ll learn more about what happened here.

The following scenes will lead into the second half of the investigations. Once you’re given free control again, examine the following:

The killer’s goal

Wiped fingerprints

Signs of a struggle

Motive: Theft (?)

This deduction will lead to an examination of thebookshelfbehind the victim’s original position. Examine thebloody handprints, the books, and the book with a bullet hole on the bottom row.

Deduce the book with a bullet holein it and present theCrime Scene Notesto point out a contradiction. The faulty assumption here is ‘The order of the files’.

With the new aspect, examine the book with a bullet hole and thebig gap in the books to the rightto proceed.

The completion of this investigation will lead right into your firstcross-examinationof the game against Jacques Portsman. If you need a tutorial, there’s one offered to you - if you’ve played any of the mainline Ace Attorney games, you may treat these as any other cross-examination.

Cross-Examination: Mr. Portsman’s Logic

This is a very simple cross-examination and leads straight into the second.

Cross-Examination: Reason For Suspicion

This brings you neatly to the second half of the case and the second investigation.

Investigation: Prosecutor’s Building - 12th Floor Hallway

Start here by talking to Maggey about every dialogue option she has.Present her with the Master Keyand then talk to her about the new options that appear, which deal with the key and Jacques Portsman. Then, examine the following:

Master key was stolen

Used the master key

With this complete, examine Portsman’s door againandDeduce the doorknob, usingMr. Portsman’s Officeas evidence of a contradiction.

State that you need toexamine the prints on the doorknoband then, after the quick scene, state thatMaggey Byrde’s printsshould have been on there.

You’ll be prompted to examine the floor this time. Look at the following:

Upon the completion of this investigation, you’ll return to your office and confront Portsman.

Cross-Examination: Portsman’s Alibi

Cross-Examination: Portsman’s Alibi, Pt. 2

With that action, Portsman is dealt with. The only other prompt in this case is to present a piece of evidence which had no impact - this time, present the Stolen 0-Series File.
