You’ll find so many new layers to the depth of your Sim’s attraction to their potential partners inThe Sims 4: Lovestruckexpansion, and one of the ways the team sought to add this was with a rich series of turn ons and offs, up to 50 per Sim.
By heading into CAS and choosing which traits and skills your Sim prefers or dislikes when it comes to the company they keep, you’ll have a wealth of new ways to play out the love story of your dreams (or your nightmares) in The Sims 4 using turn ons and offs.
Choose Turn-Ons And Turn-Offs In Create-A-Sim
When The Sims team added the likes and dislikes system into The Sims 4 in 2021 with the Dream Home Decorator pack, who knew back then that we’d be using it todeepen the love lives of our Simsby introducing a series ofTurn-Ons and Turn-Offs?
In the same way as likes and dislikes, you can choose these for your Sims in Create-a-Sim in thePreferences tabjust below the icon for their current aspiration.
There aresix overarching categoriesunder which your Sims' preferences can fall in TS4 Lovestruck, breaking down into plenty of smallertraits, skills, and habitsthat your Sim takes into account when deciding if they’re interested in a potential partner.
These Turn-On and Turn-Off categories are:
Personality traits have a bigger sway on romantic attraction than physical traits, but both play into dating in The Sims 4: Lovestruck!
In this menu, you’re able to choose whether something is aTurn-Onfor your Sim, somethingthey find attractivewhen looking for a partner, or aTurn-Off, somethingthey’re not interested inwhen it comes to another Sim.
These can contradict one another, since traits aren’t mutually exclusive all the time, but you cannot be turned onandoff by the same trait.You can change theseat any time in CAS - nobody’s interests stay the same their whole life, and neither should your Sims'!
How Does Attraction Work In The Sims 4: Lovestruck?
Once these are set, your Sim will encounter other Sims with these traits in their dating endeavors, and you’ll see thatSims react differently to Sims with their turn-ons,typically more compatible in conversation and more interested overall. If you’re using Cupid’s Corner to find a match, you’ll see these traits highlighted on the profiles of potential matches.
Your Sims will then experiencefive levels of attractionto other Sims. The meter ranges fromVery Unattractedall the way toVery Attracted, which is impacted by how many traits the other Sim has that your Sim registers as Turn-Ons or Turn-Offs. They’remore likely to have successful dates with Sims they’re attracted to, so keep these in mind!
A new dynamic option added to The Sims 4: Lovestruck,attraction is one-wayin each relationship! Unlike how your Sims share the same meter for romantic or platonic relationships,each Sims' Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs are unique. Just because you see someone who’s the Sim of your dreams doesn’t mean they’ll be attracted to you in return!
Your Sim can choose to change certain things about themselves, trying to fit their partner’s perfect mold, so choose how dedicated they are to the cause before grabbing the hair dye or going on a shopping spree. Sometimes, if you’re just not compatible enough with someone it’s best to move on and meet someone who likes you for you.
If you want to know what another Sim finds attractive, you’ll need toask other Sims about their preferenceswhen it comes to Turn-Ons and Offs. You can evenask them how attracted they are to youif you’re not sure where their head is.
Your Sim may find themselves attracted to someone else physically but be repulsed by their personality traits, or vice versa - you’ll need to decide what’s a deal-breaker and what isn’t!
The more turn ons and offs your Sims have in The Sims 4: Lovestruck, the richer your romantic advances will be. Your Sims take all of these things into account when choosing a partner, so assign them wisely!
