The dark and gritty world ofHunt: Showdown 1896is not for the faint of heart. There are noxious ghouls and monsters stalking the places whereThe Sculptor has plied his trade, not to mention other hunters that aren’t so keen on sharing their glory.
But, as you move through Mammon’s Gulch, Colorado in search of loot, bounties, and enemies, you’ll need everything you may get your hands on to keep your hunters alive. Thankfully, weapons and tools aren’t the only things at your disposal: there are also these handy tips.
7Use Your Verticals
Hit Them From Above
The creators of Hunt: Showdown 1896 try to add more and more variables with each new map that they release, and Mammon’s Gulch is no exception. The push for verticality is apparent in this map, and it shouldn’t be ignored.
The mountains are a great place to use the jutting cliffs, sheer slopes of quarries, or even the second story of a building to get the drop on your enemy. It’s one thing to watch the horizon, or around the corner, it’s another to keep track of every window and rock above you.
Keeping each of your trio of hunters at different verticalities is a great way to not get run down by a stray bomb or a melee-happy player.
6Watch Out For The Hellborn
The new wildcard boss is quite a spectacle. Running into a Hellborn can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how well your hunters are prepared. The good news is that killing one can be short work, especially since there is no banishing needed.
The bad news is that they don’t go down without a fight. Their magma-like attacks hurt quite a bit, and it takes some time to remove the burning effect they give you. It’s also quite loud if you want to take them down quickly. verify to assess with your group whether or not to take one on if you find one.
5Jump From Cover To Cover
Keep Them Guessing
One of the other differencesin this map compared to the previous ones, albeit a slighter difference, is cover. The bayous and wetlands of the earlier Hunt: Showdown maps often had vast open spaces to get caught in and shot down.
While you should still keep your head on a swivel, the options for cover are more varied and plentiful now. Make sure to rush a trio, duo, or lone target by jumping from cover to cover. No one wants to be caught in the open when someone unloads an Avtomat at them.
4Go Underground
A Miner Tip
Verticality in this map isn’t all about going up. The mountains that Mammon’s Gulch are situated on made them ideal for miners and prospectors looking for rich veins of minerals below ground. Use these mines to your advantage.
They are narrow, and dark, but a single corridor can easily be defended by one or two characters armed with close-quarters weaponry, or by laying down some traps to limit the junctions. Just make sure you were the first one with that idea.
Be wary of the bats that often roost at the entrances of these mines. They will make a lot of noise if you get too close.
3Know La Plata & Oro Gordo
Snaking Passages
Where your target will lead you is fairly randomized from game to game, but there does seem to be a pull towards the center of the map. La Plata and Oro Gordo mines see a lot of fighting during the mid-to-late match.
This goesespecially for Soul Survivor. Which in turn means that you should really get to know the ins and outs of these two locations. The shanty and industrial areas surrounding them are often where targets and the hunters defending their banishment will be. So, it’s best to know the ways in and out.
2Use Streams To Your Advantage
The Oregon Trail Method
Mammon’s Gulch is missingthe waist deep bayous and stagnant swampsthat have marked the previous maps in Hunt: Showdown, but it isn’t all dry land to move across on this map.
The streams that cut the map into sections run from the north and diverge a few times. Sometimes they are able to be hopped across, while other times you might have to get your feet wet. Regardless, they are noisy areas where it can be hard to hear people coming, and you are often slowed down while you cross them.
They are excellent areas to set an ambush if you know a hunting party is coming across one.
1Watch Out For Supplies
Restock And Reload
Like any map, there are various supplies that are hidden around Mammon’s Gulch. Some you may not need, while others can effectively resupply you or alter your playstyle for the match.
These vary from carry-able bear traps, ammo, and even weaponry in rare cases. Keep an eye out, especially if you’re near one of the covered wagon markers on your map, where total resupplies are sometimes possible.
