The Sims 4: City Livinggives you the opportunity to live in the big city, complete with a wide range of apartments. The in-game apartments vary from tiny, one-room studios to massive, multi-level apartment-mansions. Regardless of which you pick, you will still be constrained by the building itself.

Here, we are going to look at some tips to help you renovate your apartment in The Sims 4: City Living. These tips will cover designing the space, finding apartments in the gallery, and how to avoid drawing attention to the unsightly features in the apartment. As this is an expansion, you will only have access to this content with the City Living DLC.

From the gallery, you may find and place unique builds on your lot, and this holds true for apartments. The process is a little different though; you will need to search for your exact apartment first. For example, in the images above, we searched for 930 Medina Studios, which pulled up several options.

After choosing one that you like, you will need to line it up perfectly with the borders of the apartment. Once you do, the outline will turn green and you can place it down. Afterward, you may need to do some adjusting with windows and wallpapers, but the furniture and layout will be set!

7Don’t Be Afraid To Knock Down Walls

Dealing with an awkward room layout? Just because it’s an apartment, that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to knock down walls! Head into Build/Buy mode, click on the sledgehammer and get to destroying. you’re able to remove any walls within the apartment.

Some apartments may have one too many rooms for you, or too closed of a concept. For larger apartments, you can basically treat it like the footprint of a normal house. All you need to do is plan the inside.

6How To Deal With Permanent Plaques

Some lots have a permanent plaque that you will need to work around. These plaques cannot be removed, even if you have cheats turned on. Instead, you will need to plan around the plaque. This can involve leaving it out in the open, as well as hiding it behind other objects.

Curtains can be placed over plaques, hiding them from sight. While this may look strange with some curtain types, the Blinds de Nuit shown above looks like a wooden fixture on the wall rather than some blinds.

you’re able to also put a tall wardrobe or bookshelf over the plaque. There will be a hit box that prevents furniture from being too close, but thankfully, you can use ‘bb.moveobjects’to put a bookcase flush against the wall.

5Stick To A Theme

If you are building your apartment from the ground up (i.e. adding furniture and walls), then it’s important to stick to a theme, or at least have some reoccurring elements. When we were younger, we all made a house with each room having a radically different theme. While this may be fun and whimsical, it’s not the most realistic.

When planning your apartment, try having a vision in mind. Do you want a regal-looking apartment with pink and white? Or are you embracing a witchy lifestyle with a preference for greenery? Let this theme guide you as you place down rooms.

If designing an apartment from scratch sounds daunting, you can move into the apartment furnished and use the existing rooms as a guideline for where you should be placing your furniture.

4Look At Real Apartment Layouts

This holds true for all builds in The Sims 4, but it’s important to know what a real apartment looks like. Apartments typically have a layout ‘flow’. The front door enters into aliving space or kitchen, with the bedrooms being placed farther from the door.

If you are struggling to place some walls down, do a quick search for apartment layouts. You will be able to get a sense of where certain rooms are typically placed, as well as how to make the layout look natural.

3Don’t Renovate Every Apartment

If you are playing The Sims 4 without any cheats and aim to work your way up from the bottom, then you will probably start off in a relatively cheap apartment. While it may be tempting to immediately redesign the space, resist the urge!

With a job that fits your skill set, you can easily make money and get promoted. Rather than spending that money on renovations, put it towards your future apartment. This is especially important if you are aiming for an expensive apartment building.

2Utilize Half Walls

No matter how big your apartment is, it can feel cramped at times. With tall walls, the space can feel smaller than it actually is. A great solution for this is to utilize half walls. If your living room and kitchen are in two closed-off rooms, throw a half wall down instead!

This can create an open space with clear sight lines. There are many different half-wall versions, so you can find the one that works best with the overall wall height of your apartment.

1Apartment Pools

Can apartments have pools? Yes! While it may defy building logic, you’re able to place a pool anywhere on the bottom floor of an apartment. This means that if your apartment only has one floor, then you can place it anywhere.

With some renovating, you may create an indoor poolroom that feels quite luxurious. Above, we tested this in one of thecheapest apartments in the city, where it was still possible. The apartments below seem unbothered by a giant chunk of water taking up their living space.
