CD Red Projekt Redhas been sticking true to its work over the past year or so, releasing various in-depth development updates on all of its current crop of titles, including sequels to Cyberpunk 2077 andThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We’ve known about every step in development on both, but the developer has now revealed that “substantial progress” has been made on the next entry inThe Witcherseries.
In CD Projekt Red’slatest earnings report, the studio has outlined exactly what it’s been up to during the first half of 2024, announcing that it’s now “gearing up” to enter full production of the next Witcher game, which is currently codenamed “Project Polaris.” It’s further explained that the progress that has been made this year will allow the studio to wrap up pre-production of The Witcher 4 very shortly, meaning it’s now all hands on deck.
That’s not too surprising, given we know thatThe Witcher 4 will be the next game that CD Projekt Red releases, though we still have no idea as to when that will be. Cyberpunk 2077 associate director Paweł Sasko recently explained that all the studio’s games are in the “early stages,” and since The Witcher 4 is only just entering full production, we’re still likely a few years away from a reveal.
The Witcher 4 Is Bringing Back Geralt
Despite CD Projekt Red’s openness about development, there’s actually a lot we don’t know about The Witcher 4, including settings, potential stories, and the characters that it will feature. We know that Geralt won’t be the main man this time around, as he kicks his feet up at the end of The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine DLC, but we do know that he’ll feature at some point.
Earlier this month, Geralt’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, revealed thatGeralt will be “a part” of The Witcher 4, but it’s still up in the air as to how much. He also won’t be the game’s main focus, so we’ll have to wait and see whether CD Projekt Red will hand the franchise over to Ciri, or if a completely different protagonist will take over entirely.
