Anime is home to many characters that are highly overpowered, especially in Shōnen anime, where each character stands as a ceiling of strength to reach for either the protagonist to beat or an antagonist to confront. Often times these characters are non-human monsters or were once human and turned into beings of unimaginable power.
Each character has their own unique powers and skills that represent strength in almost unimaginable ways, and it’s almost impossible to beat them unless an equally overpowered character shows up against them. The strongest non-humans in anime can defeat most humans easily, unless it’s Saitama, but that said, the ones mentioned here pose an existential threat to the planet in more ways than one.
10Muzan Kibutsuji - Demon Slayer
An Immortal Demon With Multiple Brains And Hearts
Muzan Kibutsujiis the king of demons and the main villain of the Demon Slayer anime, which is currently one of the most visually appealing animated shows out there. Being the king of demons has a lot of perks for Muzan, foremost being immortality, but Muzan can also heal from almost any injury in a heartbeat and can live for millennia, his only weakness being the sun.
He can transfer his blood to humans and create demons on his own, and he can mold his body to create weapons out of his bones that can instantly kill you if you’re not careful enough. No human besides Yoriichi has come close to defeating Muzan, and no human will till the final battle in the Infinity Castle arc.
9Rod Reiss’s Titan Form - Attack On Titan
A Titan Serum Injection Gone Wrong
Rod Reiss was a royal-blooded Attack on Titan character and the monarch who ruled over the island of Paradis. His family possessed the founding titan till it was stolen by Grisha Yeager and in season three, he tries to get Historia to steal it back from Eren. His plan eventually fails and, out of desperation, he makes an awful decision.
He decides to lick off titan serum off the ground, which transforms him into a gigantic, never-before-seen abnormal titan inone of the best episodes in the anime. The size of the titan was bigger than the Colossal, and though it had no brains, it was capable of destroying entire cities if the scout regiment hadn’t gotten the situation under control.
8Kars - JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Kars Is The Ultimate Lifeform
Kars was the head of the vampires in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and the leader of the trio of pillar men who finally awoke after centuries. His main goal was to conquer the sun by using the masks he and his fellow pillar men made to become the ultimate life form.
Through trickery and deceit, he achieves this and transforms into an extremely powerful and overpowered being who can turn into any lifeform based on his needs. He has an extreme regeneration factor, has no weaknesses, and can do anything he wants, except win against Joseph Joestar. It was pure luck that defeated Kars and propelled him into space where he eventually stopped thinking.
7Kaguya - Naruto
The Progenitor Of Chakra And The Mother Of All Ninjutsu
Kaguya Otsutsuki was a member of the Otsutsuki clan in Naruto Shippuden, an alien race that created god trees that would suck life out of the earth and create a fruit with highly concentrated chakra. Upon consuming the chakra fruit, they will become incredibly powerful and capable of extraordinary feats.
Kaguya gains godlike powers after consuming her fruit, including space-time manipulation, reality-warping, and the ability to absorb any technique. Her overwhelming strength and near omniscience make her almost unstoppable with the only hope of defeat being to seal her away,and it takes a while for her to be revealed in the anime.
6Boros - One Punch Man
The Only Being To Survive Saitama’s Punches So Far
Boros represents a God-level threat to humanity, a threat that was never achieved before but was capable of destroying humans entirely. His ship alone destroyed an entire city when they landed on Earth, all so Boros could face the strongest being in the universe, Saitama.
The self-proclaimed Dominator of the Universe, Boros, displays immense physical strength and regenerative abilities. His sheer power pushed Saitama, the series' protagonist, to his limits, if you can consider them his limits. Though it looked like Saitama was trying, he really wasn’t, but the matchup was unfair. Boros alone surviving for as long as he did is an incredible feat.
5Meruem - Hunter X Hunter
King Of The Chimera Ants
The Chimera Ant King, Meruem, is evidence of the raw potential of evolution. He was expected to come forth by the Chimera Ant race and was born with unmatched physical capabilities. He is incredibly smart, fast, physically powerful, and outmatches every hunter alive in the anime.
As soon as he was born, he started his path to global domination and killed multiple Hunters without breaking a sweat. He was brought down after being caught off guard by Isaac Nertero’s bomb since his only vulnerability was poison.
4Ryuk - Death Note
A Shinigami Capable Of Killing Any Human
Ryuk is a cosmic figure, with his responsibility being to write names in his notebook when he feels that a human has lived long enough. As a Shinigami, he got bored with his day job and decided to throw his Death Note into the mortal world, which led to Light ultimately finding it.
Ryuk is unkillable and immortal and cannot be seen by mortals unless they are in contact with a Death Note. He can kill anyone he wants simply by writing their name in his book and detailing how they will die. There’s no stopping him, but there are rules for the Death Note notebook and how it can function.
3Goku - Dragon Ball Z
Goku Can Destroy Planets And Continuously Grows Beyond His Limits
The Saiyan warrior Goku is a classic and inspires many kids in his time to never give up. Through his determination to constantly trainand find more powerful opponents to face, he has pushed his physical and spiritual limits, achieving godlike levels of power.
Goku’s transformations from his Super Saiyan form to Super Saiyan God and then Ultra Instinct show how he went beyond his limits each time and became more powerful than even the Gods of Destruction. There’s no denying that at his current level of power, he is capable of more than he shows.
2Satan - Devilman Crybaby
Fighting With Him Ripped The Earth Apart
A fallen angel and the embodiment of chaos, Satan’s power is both mesmerizing and terrifying. Afterone of the greatest plot twists in anime Satan’s identity is revealed, he starts a war between demons and humanity and battles Akira to determine the planet’s fate.
The fight against Akira is incredibly violent and eventually destroys the planet as it progressively becomes more and more intense. As one of the villains to win and successfully defeat the protagonist, Satan has proved himself as perhaps one of the strongest non-human characters in anime.
1Zeno - Dragon Ball Super
Can Casually Destroy The Multiverse If He Wants
Zeno has the power to destroy the universe and the multiverse with just a thought. He represents the age of the universe and existence itself and inhabits a child-like body and personality that is way goofier than you’d expect from someone of his caliber.
Even the angels and the Gods of destruction bow to him as the ultimate ruler of the multiverse, and his power is incomparable to almost anyone in anime. Zeno’s whimsical and unpredictable nature makes him terrifying, as his actions can have catastrophic consequences for countless worlds, but would be just a push of a button for him.
