Summary
In Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD, Heroes are both your first line of defense and your last line of defense. If you don’t know how to operate your hero or they simply don’t mesh well with the map or your tower setup, then you’re going to have an exceedingly hard time beating your chosen stage.
Although you unlock your heroes as you progress throughout the main campaign, there are some great ones that you can get your hands on during the early stages. Of course, the best heroes won’t be available until you beat the game, but they’re great for cleaning up and maxing your stars.

10Raelyn
Leader Of The Dark Knights
Raelyn will be one of the first heroes that you get your hands on, and she’ll more than likely carry you through most of the beginning area and well into the second. Raelyn is great at fighting ground-based enemies and helping to keep quick runners well within the range of your ranged towers.
The only downside to this hero is that trying to get her to move across the map is a tedious and time-consuming process, so it’s better to keep her situated in high-traffic areas instead.

9Nyru
A Tricky Forest Protector
Once you start getting flying enemies, it’s an absolute necessity to stick Nyru on your team. This trickster can dart around the map quickly, meaning that you may clean up before your enemies break through your defenses. Not to mention, Nyru is great at attacking both ground-based and air-based enemies.
However, you won’t be able to use Nyru’s hero ability to fight off the flying enemies, given that it only spawns thorns along the ground. Even still, Nyru is a great option for slightly longer-term usage, though you may want to keep him out of the middle of the fight as his defense isn’t the best.

8Grimson
An Abomination Seeking Revenge
Grimson is a hero that you may find yourself using more often than not, especially once you have further upgraded his abilities. He’s incredibly durable, meaning you can throw him into the middle of a fight without much issue.
His attacks are a little on the slower end of things, but he can dart across the map at a reasonable speed, which means cleaning up or putting a stop to enemies before they can tick down your health should be easy enough. His hero ability does take a minute to trigger, however, so you’re going to need to time yourself well andimplement some relatively well-thought-out strategybefore using it.

7Onagro
A Goblin War Machine
If you like fighting primarily with explosives and you’re good at timing when to use your hero abilities, then Onagro may be the hero for you. Although powerful and with an exceptional defense, Onagro is slower moving than other later-game heroes, which could be detrimental if you don’t have your tower set up perfectly.
Plus, their hero ability does take a minute to trigger, requiring a goblin to float across the screen and toss out some explosives. Even still, if you may figure out how to Onagro, they will serve you well.

6Anya
A Dhampir Fighting The Forces Of Evil
Anya is a gunslinging dhampir, determined to hunt down the forces of evil. She can fight long-ranged (and take down flying enemies) as well as get in the middle of short-ranged melee combat without issue. She can turn into smoke and fly across the map quickly and her hero ability is an instant trigger, which makes her an incredibly strong and useful hero.
Her defense could be better, but all in all, she’s a useful hero to keep around. Level her abilities up entirely, and she may be able to carry you close to the finish line.

5Broden
A Griffon Rider With A Gun
Once you’ve unlocked Broden, you’re going to have great air support from a hero. While there are others who can attack flying enemies, they don’t necessarily prioritize them. Broden, however, will prioritize your flying enemies.
Plus, his hero ability allows him to hone in on flying enemies and take them down, which makes him a great backup if you find yourself overwhelmed. Given the fact that he’s riding a griffin, obstacles on the map won’t impair him, which means that he can pretty much move anywhere, which is great if you’re playing on mobile.

The only way he could be better is if he attacked just a little bit faster.
4Therien
A Powerful Voidmancer
Although you’re able to get Therien when you’re about halfway through the game, this is one of the few heroes that could easily carry you to and through the final state. Therien can teleport around the map if you move her new location far enough, plus she can attack flying and ground enemies from a distance.
Although her defense isn’t the best, it’s really easy to get her out of crowded areas and into safety. She also has a passive ability that extends the ranges of your towers temporarily. Her hero ability can help you with crowd control if things get too busy - something that’s almost a necessity in the end stages.

3Warhead
A Dark Army Automaton
Warhead is a tank in every meaning of the word. Despite being made of metal and being a slow-moving hero, Warhead can get around the map quickly and easily. He’s one of the later-stage heroes, but he is one who will help you out during the final campaign stage.
He’s great at slowing down enemies and his hero ability helps to deal a decent amount of damage to a large swath of enemies on your path. You don’t really have to watch this automaton as he holds his own relatively well; just be sure to stay on top of his upgrades.

2Lumenir
Avatar Of Justice And Resolve
Lumenir is one of the premium dragon heroes that you cannot get until you’ve ended the game. After that, you can easily utilize Lumenir and any other hero of your choice to go through and complete challenges, try harder difficulties, or clean up the stages to get three stars across the board.
In the earlier stages, which are, by and large, much easier, you don’t actually need many other towers. Lumenir can pretty much solo whatever path they’re on. Plus their hero ability is instantaneous and will block the pathway with fighters, meaning that Lumenir gets more time to deal more damage.

1Kosmyr
Just Wants Peace And Quiet
Although Kosmyr is not seeking justice like Lumenir, this dragon is still seeking to resolve the conflict so they can get some peace and quiet for once. Again, like Lumenir, you can’t actually get Kosmyr until you’ve beaten the main campaign.
However, once you get your hands on Kosmyr, you can rule the day, sending down a hailstorm of crystals that wipes out enemy groups, dive-bombing the ones that dare to get under, and generally just dominating whatever pathway Kosmyr is on. This dragon is, without a doubt, one of the strongest - if not the strongest - heroes in the game, even without all the upgrades.
Once you have your hands on Kosmyr, you might not be surprised to learn thatKingdom Rush is considered one of the best tower defensegames on the market.
