Summary

Monster Hunter Storiesbrings you back to the start of your monster-riding journey, instead of just hunting them.As you journey to stop the Black Blightand Dr. Manelger’s schemes for the kinship stones, you’ll find many powerful monsties to hatch and ride into battle. As the blight and corrupted Kinship stones grow in power, you will want to assemble a powerful team.

The remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories gives the original 3DS game a boost in graphics, fidelity, and a completely updated package, where certain monsters that were unavailable internationally in the original story are now monsties you can find in the field. These include some of the fiercest monsters in the game that were formally untamable until now.

Brachydios Preparing the Brachy Blow in Monster hunter Stories: Remastered

Kinship Attack

Brachy Blow

The blast slime boxing dinosaur, Brachydios is a great physical powerhouse that can apply additional damage to enemies. Brachydios is an incredible monstie in battle due to their Slime Stomp and Slime Charge attacks.

Explosive fire damage is the way to go for Brachydios, and even monsters with high defenses against the fire element would still take significant damage from the attacks. It also helps that Brachydios' kinship attack is one of the most endearing and hilariously fitting attacks in the entire game.

Flying on a Gold Rathian in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered

Scorching Slice

The strongest of the Rathian variants, Gold Rathian has all the same skills but more boosted and powerful genes for fire attacks and resistance to elemental damage. You can get a Gold Rathian as one of your rewards alongside a Silver Rathalos after completing the Tower of Illusion, where you get a taste of their strength as a fierce pair.

Many of her attacks are boosted versions of the other Rathian attacks, from unlocking the Sweep Poison Spike sooner than the Pink Rathians to already getting hatched with the formidable Spread Fire Breath. Gold Rathian also has additional attacks called the Wyvern Queen’s Dance and Lunar Cry, which debuff foes.

Molten Tigrex Preparing to smash the ground with its claws in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered.

Rock Smash

With the ferocity of its weaker brethren, the Molten Tigrex is the power and strength of a Brute Tigrex with explosive powder. The Molten Tigrex also has several major genes for elemental resistance — lightning and dragon elements specifically. They also gain high-level skills sooner than the other Tigrex types.

New attacks exclusive to Molten Tigrex are explosive powder-specific attacks that cause blast blight on monsters, an affliction that will cause an eventual detonation that does additional damage to the target. These attacks are Explosive Dust and Blast Chaser, which do even more damage to blast blighted enemies.

Flying with Ratha in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered

Sky-High Dive

Your best friend that you hatched without a kinship stone one year before the story’s main events. Ratha is a unique monstie even among his kind due to the scar on his left eye. Once you have Ratha in your party, he will remain in your party regardless of your intended setup due to his central involvement in the story. As a result, he’ll likely be the most used monstie in your group throughout the adventure.

Ratha is unlocked in your party highly leveled, making him very overpowered during the mid-game as you travel the next few locales from the Dovan Volcano to Mt. Celion. Ratha already starts with Firebreath and Evasive Stance, both giving him a high advantage against other monsters for the next few main quests.

Kirin executing the Phantasmal Horn in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered

Phantasmal Horn

The first Elder Dragon you can hatch, the Kirin is a unicorn-like monster with strong thunder attacks. Some of the strongest thunder attacks belong to the Kirin, and they are empowered by the Thunder Scale Gene. Kirins are also fast little monsties, one of the fastest creatures in the world of Monster Hunter. To enforce this aspect of their lore, they have the Quick gene (L) and the Neigh ability, which increases the action speed for three turns.

Kirin’s exclusive lighting attacks are the Thundercall, an attack that damages a random set of enemies with five strikes, and the Pinpoint Strike, which is more attuned to striking one enemy with a chance of paralysis. Combined with the large Thunder Boost, Kirin is the most devastating thunder-elemental monstie you can have.

Deviljho in a Hunger Rage during its Kinship in Monster Hunter Stories Remastered

Hunger Rage

The most fearsome of the brute wyverns in Monster Hunter. Deviljho is a voracious monster that can tear into any creatures you face in battle, even Elder Dragons. His Dragon attributes make him a formidable juggernaut against the Raths, Elder Dragons, and the unique boss fights you’d face in the Tower of Illusion with the right genes and skills.

One of Deviljho’s key skills is gluttony, allowing him to quite literally take a chunk of health from enemies to heal. Combined with the predatory gene, which heals after finishing enemies off, Deviljho can be built to be a near-invincible monster.

Rajang is powering up with fury in Monster Hunter Stories Remastered

Gigantic Meteor

Rajang is a ‘new’ addition for international players of the remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories. Arguably the strongest of the Fanged Beasts, he combines fierce speed with relentless strength. And that’s when he doesn’t enter his golden rage mode. Like Deviljho, Rajang is a powerhouse monster that can be built into the ultimate endgame companion.

Rajang is compatible with a plethora of lightning genes you can find in other monsters. If you combine Zinogre and Lagiacrus lightning genes with Rajang, you get a big boost in his lightning abilities from beams to his golden form.

Silver Rathalos soars into the skies in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered

The rare species of the Rathalos breed is also one of the strongest monsties you’re able to hatch in Monster Hunter Stories. The Silver Rathalos is one of the toughest monsties you can get that’s not an Elder Dragon. This monstie combines the strengths of other Rathalos types with better genes such as the Fire Scale Gene and the Kinship Gene for better power buildup.

Silver Rathalos has several exclusive skills made just for him. The most prevalent and devastating attack in his arsenal is the Wyvern King Dance, a series of attacks that obliterates enemies in five hits with fire damage. Combined with Infernal Breath and the Blazing Strength skill, which increases fire damage, Silver Rathalos is the best fire elemental monstie you can have.

Kushala Daora Performing the Ancient Storm in Monster Hunter Stories: Remastered

Ancient Storm

With the remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories, you get to experience the original story and endgame content with the option to hatch and tame Elder Dragons. Kushala Daora is one of these great beasts and, like several of the flying wyverns, allows you to take flight around the environment.

For players that have experienced Monster hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, these additions to the roster may seem like no big deal. But for followers of the series, it’s exciting to have your own juvenile Kushala Daora and Teostra in the original game that started it all.

Teostra executing the Catastrophic Zero in Monster hunter Stories: Remastered

Kushala is a swift monstie with a plethora of skills. The main element in its arsenal is ice, which it uses for Sonic Strike T, and the non-elemental Trap Cyclone, which ensnares enemies and entombes them for continuous damage.

Catastrophic Zero

A powerful Elder Dragon with a ferocious temper to match its fiery disposition, Teostra is a mighty beast whose flame and explosive power can outrank the power of Molten Tigrex and Silver Rathalos. You can also navigate hard-to-access areas with the lava dive and intimidate monsters out of fight with a fearsome roar.

The mightiest of Teostra’s attacks is the Super Nova, an explosive attack that can decimate all enemies. Those who survive are subjected to a 60 percent chance of succumbing to burn damage. Teostra also has the Dust Gene that gives them the Dust Explosion attack, which targets randomly but does a lot of damage and leaves enemies vulnerable to Blastblight.
