Summary

Mass genocide, thievery, torture, deceit. These are all instinctual to each member of the Phantom Troupe. They’re one of the most powerful groups inHunter x Hunter, and set the stage for Kurapika’s journey through the Kurta Clan Massacre.

With Kurapika being bound to run into them in the Succession War arc aboard the Black Whale, it’s a good time to talk about who is the strongest Phantom Troupe member, and who Kurapika should be most wary of.

Updated on July 19, 2025, by Asad Kashif: As Togashi continues to put out more chapters for the Succession War arc, we begin to learn more about Hunter x Hunter’s Phantom Troupe members. We’ve not only learnt their past, but also some additional abilities of certain members, such as Bonolenov’s talent for shapeshifting. Apart from already existing members, we’ve also decided to give some love to former, less-canon member of the Troupe, to see if Omokage stands a chance against the others. After going through their abilities, feats, and other miscellaneous things that may aid them in battle, we’ve compiled all Phantom Troupe members, ranked by their power!

16Kortopi

Not A Combatant

Kortopi himself admits to being at the very bottom of the Troupe in regard to strength, and that’s okay. One thing that makes the Spiders so successful is that not all members focus on combat specifically.

Gallery Fake lets Kortopi make copies of objects. He’s used this ability to copy entire clusters of buildings, showing an immense amount of Aura. Even if Kortopi is the weakest in the Troupe, he’s nowhere near replaceable.

15Pakunoda

Good With Guns

Pakunoda is in a similar situation with Kortopi, where she’s not exactly a fighter, nor does she have any offensive abilities. Yet, like Kortopi, she’s an irreplaceable asset to the Troupe due to her Specialist Hatsu, Psychometry.

Pakunoda is an expert marksman, being able to instantaneously shoot six targets within a second.

Her ability allows her to read the memories of people she’s touched. This is extremely useful to a criminal organization for information gathering and blackmail purposes. She has another Hatsu, Memory Bomb, that lets her either share memories with people she shoots or erase them.

14Shizuku Murasaki

Pro With A Vacuum

Shizuku’s weapon of choice is a conjured vacuum named Blinky. She’s got one of the most confusing abilities in terms of Nen Affinity, as the powers that Blinky holds are no less powerful than a Specialist’s.

Blinky can be used to suck in anything non-living, regardless of how big or heavy it is, and the vacuum itself is connected to a sort of alternate dimension where she can keep just a single item to bring out in the future.

13Kalluto Zoldyk

Beware Of Paper Cuts

Kalluto is the most inexperienced member of the group. The reason he’s above all members ranked below him is simple; he’s an actual combatant. Kalluto’s ability, Dance of the Serpent’s Bite, lets him use a paper fan to control confetti.

However, his ability is properly activated when one of the pieces of paper manages to stick to the enemy. Once that condition is met, all the other pieces target that spot and repeatedly slash the open wound until the target loses all its blood.

12Shalnark

High Risk, High Reward

Shalnark is a manipulator with an ability that can control anyone if he manages to attach his antennae to them. However, this is a standard manipulation technique, and would not be something that puts him above even the likes of Shizuka.

What makes Shalnark better than the non-combatants is his Autopilot Hatsu which enables him to output a tremendous amount of aura and become a menace to fight. However, this comes at a cost, as Shalnark continues to use up Aura until his command is completed. If he takes too long, he can spend all his life energy and die.

11Franklin Bordeau

Living Machine Gun

Seeing his big and bulky build, you’d assume Franklin is a close-ranged fighter. He certainly isn’t bad, being able to spar with the likes of Nobunaga, but his preferred way of fighting is to rain down a barrage of Nen Bullets on his enemies.

Even compared to fellow Emmitters, Franklin is praised by others for the penetrative power of his bullets, something not seen in other Nen abilities. We have yet to see his full arsenal, but we have seen what he does best, and that’s shredding large groups of enemies with ease.

10Omokage

Divine Puppeteer

To indulge in art in human nature, but when does one go too far in their pursuit of beauty? In the case of Omokage, his love for puppets made him kill his own younger sister to turn her into an eternally living puppet, one that is fully obedient to his commands.

It’s difficult to determine Omokage’s power in a straightforward way. In direct combat, he’s one of the weakest Phantom Troupe members. However, under the right circumstances, his ability to create puppets from memories lets him have any power he wishes, and he benefits more from prep time than anyone else. Theoretically, Omokage’s ability can function just like Chrollo’s as well, giving him a plethora of abilities to exploit. However, without the leader of the Phantom Troupe’s genius and lack of any specific feats, Omokage lives on as the Phantom Troupe’s potential man.

9Machi Komacine

The Group’s Medic

No good criminal group can function without a backup plan for if they suffer injuries, and Machi provides that, as well as much more. Her ability, Nen Threads, can be used to stitch wounds, even being able to join back Hisoka’s severed arm in mere seconds.

It’s also implied that Machi is much more powerful than she’s shown to be, with her being confident in fighting against fellow Troupe members such as Phinks, as well as threatening to kill Hisoka if anything were to happen to Chrollo.

8Bonolenov Ndongo

Not Many Can Conjure A Planet

Bonolenov is one of the weirder characters in Hunter x Hunter, and that’s saying something. He’s from the extinct Gyodondond tribe, whose people poke holes in their bodies to create music with.

Bonolenov has access to a few widely different abilities in his arsenal, all using the sound that his body makes to manifest. Battle Cantabile: Prologue conjures a spear and an armor that buff him, while Battle Cantabile: Metamorphoson lets him turn into another person, copying their looks and voice. Bonolenov also has Battle Cantabile: Jupiter, which lets him rain down a giant planet from the sky to crush his foes.

7Phinks Magcub

Boundless Power

Theoretically, Phinks packs the most power out of anyone in the Troupe, or perhaps anyone in the Hunter x Hunter universe in general. Since he’s only ranked number seven here, clearly theory doesn’t represent reality.

His ability allows him to increase his power output by a set amount each time he spins his arm. He hasn’t said anything about a limit, so with enough time and spins, he might even be able to one-shot Meruem.
