TheYu-Gi-Oh! TCGhas plenty of cards that force your opponent to read them to understand what they do. Giant walls of text can make this a pretty daunting task, and when you are on a limited-time crunch, it can be quite stressful not only reading the text but comprehending it fast enough to come up with a counter.
These complex cards often have great effects, and if you may pull them off, they can be a great tool for winning more games. It can also prepare you so you don’t get caught off guard. Here are the most confusing cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! explained.

8Simultaneous Equation Cannon
Banishes Your Opponent’s Entire Field
Simultaneous Equation Cannon lets you banish your opponent’s board with a seemingly complex math equation. First, count the cards on the field, and in each player’s hand, the text says to do it second, but having this knowledge before you set it off is important. The first equation needs you to banish monsters. So let’s say the total number of cards is ten, then you’re able to banish two Rank four XYZ Monsters, and one level two Fusion Monster to hit ten.
Then the second equation needs you to unbanish one Fusion Monster and one XYZ Monster whose combined levels and ranks match one of your opponent’s face-up Monsters. These two cards don’t have to be cards you banished using this effect. So, if you have your banish pile set up and the rightExtra Deck Monsters, it becomes easier to pull off the second part of the equation, which is the more difficult one.

7Inspector Boarder
Limits The Number Of Effect Activations
You’ll need excellent reading comprehension skills to understand this wall of text. So, to make it easy, Inspector Boarder limits how many Monster effects can be activated by each player. Yu-Gi-Oh! has many types of Monsters, including Link, Fusion, Synchro, Ritual, Pendulum, and XYZ.
Inspector Boarder can limit the activation of Monster Effects depending on the number of different Monster Types on the field. This includes your opponent’s as well. So if there are two Fusion Monsters, this counts as one Monster type. So you can only activate one Monster Effect. However, if the field has one Link and one Fusion Monster, this counts as two. Therefore, two Monster Effects can be activated.

6Small World
A Universal Searcher
In short, Small World is a Spell Card that lets you search through your deck for any Monster. While this alone sounds amazing, the big wall of text lays down the restrictions for its use. To break it down, you banish one card from the hand and one card from the Deck to search for another card that gets added to your hand.
The card from your hand must share exactly one trait as the card from the deck. Then, you can add one card to your hand that shares exactly one trait with the card you revealed from your Deck. So think of it like playing pool, where you hit one ball with the hopes of knocking another ball into a specific hole.

5Voltester
Chain Destroys Cards On The Field
Voltester has a pretty long explanation, but if you think of it as an electric shock where everyone feels the jolt, then you have the main idea of how this card works. Special Summon it to a space where a Link Monster points to, then watch that Monster get destroyed.
Like an electric current, this destruction then applies to every other space that the destroyed Link Monster pointed to until the current runs out. What often goes over players’ heads is that this also applies to Spells and Traps, since the final wording refers to everything.

4Linear Equation Cannon
Forces You To Do More Math
Linear Equation Cannon is one of the mostintimidating Trap Cardsin the game. Luckily, it becomes simpler once you pull it off one time. To simplify it, your opponent has three Effect Monsters on the field and one set card. You can select one Monster and multiply its level by a number from one to six.
Let’s say you choose two and select a level four Monster. This equals eight. Now add the number of cards on the field your opponent controls. This is four plus eight, resulting in 12. Once you have this number, check your graveyard. If your graveyard also has 12 cards, then you can send two cards from the top of your Deck to the grave and send two of the cards on your opponent’s field back to the deck.

3Mystical Refpanel
Switches The Recipient Of Spells
Wording is everything in Yu-Gi-Oh! Even cards that have short effects can become confusing with one word that changes how they work. At first glance, Mystical Refpanel can stop your opponent’s Spell Cards that target one of your cards. However, if you read the description again, you will realize that it states Spells that target the player.
Targeting the player is not the same as targeting a Monster on their field. For example, if a card targets your opponent and forces them to show you their hand. This can be countered by Mystical Refpanel. In this scenario, your opponent would be able to look at your hand instead.

2Pole Position
Forced Additional Rules To Be Added
When Pole Position was first released, it createda nightmare scenario for Yu-Gi-Oh! judges everywhere. Pole Position is a Trap Card that attaches itself to the Monster with the highest attack. If Pole Position is destroyed, it takes the attacked Monster with it.
Simple enough, but it also makes that Monster immune to Spells. So say, for example, a card raises that Monster’s attack, making it the strongest on the Field, Pole Position would attach itself to that Monster. However, now immune to Spells, it no longer gets the attack buff. Now, if there is another Monster with a higher attack, Pole Position would switch over only to switch back again in an endless loop.

1Silent Wobby
Confusing For Both Players
Silent Wobby is a pretty simple card once you get the hang of it. However, it’s also one of those Monsters where you will end up asking exactly which effect applies to which player. You can Special Summon this card to your opponent’s field. Then it states that you can draw a card, and your opponent gains Life Points.
However, what many players don’t take into account is that because this is Summoned to your opponent’s side of the field, it is the same as if they Summoned it. Therefore, they get the card draw, and you, being their opponent, get the Life Point boost. This card also limits their hand to three.
