Summary

Digimonis known for some pretty outrageous monster designs across multiple forms of media, ranging from mechanized dinosaurs to literal angels. Digivolving your partner Digimon up to the next level is one of the most exciting parts of the Digimon games, and watching it is one of the best parts of the anime.

A lot of the time, though, the cuter Digimon get lost in the shuffle. Whether that’s because they just don’t compare to kickboxing werewolves or they had to digivolve out of their cute phase to get stronger, it’s still a shame. We thought it was time to dedicate some attention to the often-overlooked cuter side of the Digimon series.

The Leafmon Digmon, a green round blob with a dummy and leaf tail.

Keeping track of the different Digivolution stages can get confusing because the naming conventions aren’t consistent between translations. We’ll be used mostly in the anime dub since most people will be familiar with that.

8Leafmon

Baby

Baby Digimon are typically very cute, but it seems unlikely you’ll find one cuter than Leafmon. Even aside from being an adorable pastel green blob, it has a blush of pink to the cheeks, cat-like ears, and wide eyes.

None of that compares to the pink dummy in its mouth, that’s a pacifier for those in the US, and the fact that it has a tail which ends in a leaf, providing a handy parasol for Leafmon to shade itself with.

Lopmon in the Digimon series being squeezed by his trainer.

7Lopmon

Rookie

With brown fur, striped with pink, Lopmon looks perfect for cuddling. It has a vaguely rabbit-like appearance, with long ears, but is bipedal with horns on its head. Just think, if you let it ride on your back you could use those ears as a scarf.

If Lopmon is close to the mark but not your flavour of cute, Terriermon is also an option. It’s almost identical, the main differences being a paler colour palette and fewer horns. Why make them compete for your affection, though? Both are good.

The Digimon Piximon being held, a small fuzzy pink creature with wings on its head.

6Piximon

Ultimate

Piximon is a naming enigma. Yes, it’s called Piximon in the anime, but the actual translation of the name would be Picollomon, and yet the official name is Picklemon. Someone needs to make a decision and stick with it.

What we do know about Piximon is that it’s adorable. A little pink sprite with white wings growing from his head, he looks cute as a button but is actually an Ultimate-level Digimon. That’s on the same tier as MetalGreymon, so don’t underestimate this triple-named threat when deciding who to usein Digimon games.

Lillymon from Digimon standing with Tai, Agumon and her partner trainer.

5Lillymon

As an Ultimate Digimon, Lillymon is no slouch in a battle. Even so, you don’t have to sacrifice cuteness for strength, as Lillymon proves. She’s a plant-like fairy in pink and green, with large fey eyes.

Leaf wings and vine dreads look great, along with a pink petal dress. Her design alone would make you think she’s tiny, but she’s actually taller than most human characters in the series, even if not by much.

The Digimon Bakomon, made entirely out of cardboard boxes and tape.

Lillymon has multiple spellings of their name used across different pieces of Digimon media. There is Lillymon, Lilymon and Lilimon. Whatever name you’re familiar with, they’re all referring to the same Digimon in the end.

4Bakomon

Some Digimon are cute in a less conventional sense like Bakomon, made out of cardboard boxes. There’s something about him that just suggests he’s really trying his best, he’s like the Eeyore of Digimon.

We see in the anime that Bakomon can be made out of different kinds of boxes, including ones that are gift-wrapped. That means Bakomon doesn’t have to be a drab brown, he could be as colourful as any set of presents under your Christmas tree.

The Digimon Ex-Tyranomon, a plush t-rex outfit.

3Ex-Tyranomon

Not unlike Mimikyu from Pokemon, Ex-Tyranomon is an unknown Digimon hiding inside the costume of another. In this case, it’s a Tyranomon plush costume, and as cute as it may be, it isn’t fooling anyone.

The stitching is clearly visible and you can see the eyes of the real Digimon inside the mouth, you couldn’t actually mistake it for a Tyranomon. Don’t sleep on Ex-Tyranomon though, it’s still an Ultimate level Digimon.

Tokomon holding a whistle in its mouth in the Digimon anime.

Ex-Tyranomon isn’t the only plush Digimon, another notable example being Monzaemon/Teddymon. Others tend to actually be the plush creature, unlike Ex-Tyranomon who is hiding inside of one.

2Tokomon

In-Training

Tokomon is an adorable little blob of a Digimon, truly a friend-shaped companion. It looks like a living squishmallow, perfect for squeezing affectionately. With long ears and the classic anime style of cat mouth, it’s cute as can be.

Tokomon has a secret though, and that’s the nightmare-fuel level to which it can open its mouth and the multiple rows of fangs hiding inside. With that in mind, cuddle with Tokomon at your own risk.

The Digimon Cutemon, a pink rabbit creature with headphones and a pink scarf.

1Cutemon

Aside from the fact that it’s in the name, Cutemon is genuinely cute. Almost entirely pink, this rabbit-like creature would be cute enough on its own merits, but it has the good sense to accessorize. White headphones and a pink scarf, a different shade than Cutemon itself, give this Digimon some class.

It also has little red boots, raising the question of which Digimon is out there making tiny shoes. Cobbler questions aside, Cutemon has all the ingredients required to make an adorable companion Digimon.
