Elden Ringhas a colorful cast of Demigods and characters, all vying for power in the Lands Between, all directly or indirectly descended from Marika herself. As the God of the Golden Order, Marika controlled everything, right up until she betrayed her own order and caused the Shattering. This is where the Tarnished enter the Lands Between, to repair the Elden Ring and bring forth a new age.
Unfortunately, a lot of Demigods have that same ambition, one of them being Mohg.Mohg, Lord of Blood is one of the Omen twinsand his story is full of betrayal, and with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, we learn new things about him that were previously unknown, expanding upon his story, but to understand his lore, we need to start from the beginning.

Who Is Mohg, Lord Of Blood?
Mohg was born an Omen, twin to Morgott, and one of Marika and Godfrey’s children. As Omens, they were both cursed with horns and shunned by society and their Mother because of their connection to the crucible and the hornsent.
Cast into the sewers beneath Leyndell, they were hidden from the public eyeand forced to live in the shadows.
This rejection and isolation fueled Mohg’s resentmentand desire for power. While Morgott remained loyal to the Golden Orderand his mother on some level, Mohg grew to despise them both.
He saw the Golden Order ashypocritical and oppressive, and he craved a different path, one where he could rule his own empire where he’d become lord of the Lands Between bringing forth a new era.
In his isolation,Mohg stumbled upon the means to achieve this planbydiscovering the Formless Mother somewhere deep underground, an Outer God associated with blood. The Formless Mothergranted him power over bloodflame, a destructive magic that Mohg polished and used to take his first steps towards divinity.
Driven by his ambition,Mohg founded the Mohgwyn Dynasty, a hidden blood-soaked realm where he sought to create his own order that would replace Marika’s.
He rallied followers who shared his disdain for the Golden Order and his desire for a new world, andone of his mightiest soldiers was Sir Ansbach, a character introduced in the DLC.
Mohg Kidnaps Miquella
When he found out about Miquella, an Empyrean, and brother of Malenia,Mohg’s goals became grander. Miquella had the power to influence anyone andMohg saw him as a means to an end. He believed that by having Miquella,he’d have a shot at becoming Miquella’s consort and lordand establishing his dynasty.
Welcome, honored guest. To the birthplace of our Dynasty!
Because of this obsession,Mohg comes up with a plan to abduct Miquellaand take him to Mohgwyn Palace. He thought that by keeping Miquella’s cocoon close by,Miquella would eventually wake up, but Mohg was still unaware of Miquella’s plans.
Mohg infiltrated the Haligtree, where Miquella rested within his cocoon, and abducted him and brought the slumbering Empyrean to his blood-soaked realm, hoping to manipulate and control him for his own twisted purposes.
You can fight Mohg in one of the hardest boss fights in the base game and, upon killing him, can enter the Land of Shadow, where youlearn more about Mohg and his fate.
Miquella’s Plan For Mohg
Miquella, the slumbering Empyrean, possessed immense powerand a cunning intellect. He sought to break free from the influence of the Outer Gods and create a new orderguided by kindness and compassion.
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC adds a layer of intrigue to Mohg and Miquella’s relationship by revealing to us thatMiquella had orchestrated his own kidnappingby Mohg, to achieve his own path to Godhood.
Sir Ansbach, a loyal servant of Mohg, confronts Miquella, so his lord can be freed from the Empyrean’s spell, but is also unfortunately charmed by the Empyrean. He enters the Land of Shadow alongside Miquella and follows in his footsteps.
After progressing through the DLC enough and reaching Scadu Altus,Miquella willingly discards his great rune, which breaks the spell he had put on his followers. Sir Ansbach begins having doubts and decides to research exactlywhat happened to Mohg after we defeat him.
He eventually remembers thatMohg was under Miquella’s spellthe entire time, so that Miquella could enter the Land of Shadow and begin his detailed plan to ascend to Godhood.
This reveal comes out of nowhere and most of the fanbase whosaw Mohg as a villain were now sympathizing with him, as he turned out to be a victim of a grander ambition yet again.
What Happened To Mohg’s Corpse?
Entering Enir-Ilim reveals the final piece of the puzzle.Mohg’s body had apparently disappearedafter you defeated him, according to Ansbach, and he was confused as to why. All the answers are revealed after you defeat Needle Knight Leda and enter the final fog gate.
Spoiler: The identity of the final boss is revealed along with Mohg’s connection to him, so read on at your own risk.In another classic Miyazaki twist, your final enemy is revealed to be none other thanGeneral Radahn himself, back from the dead after you defeat him in the Caelid Wilds.
Apparently, in their youth,Miquella and Radahn had made a promiseto each other, which made General Radahn Miquella’s consort for when he ascends to Godhood.
But after Malenia failed to kill Radahn,Miquella’s plan was put on holdtill you show up and defeat botha rotting Radahn and a brainwashed Mohg. Miquella had taken Mohg’s body sohe could use the physical bodyof Mohg to resurrect his Promised Consort, Radahn.
Mohg’s Ultimate Fate
Mohg was nothing but a pawnin Miquella’s grand scheme. In this fight you can see Radahn has horns coming out of his arms, some of Mohg’s likeness as an omenand Radahn can even use Mohg’s bloodflame magic.
The story of Mohg, Lord of Bloodis ultimately full of tragedy, as he was first discarded by his own parents for being an Omen, and after finally achieving power,is discarded by his half brotherto resurrect his other brother.
Miquella is not guided by compassion or kindness, but a desire for change, be it for better or for worse, and using Mohg for his own endsseems like the worst fate for the Omen, but makes for a great character arc for the most misunderstood Demigod.
