With a newLegend of Zeldagame on the way inEchoes of Wisdom, fans have already started analyzing the trailer and promotional images to try and find its rightful place on the timeline.
If you’re a big fan of The Legend of Zelda, you’ll probably know all aboutthe official timeline. It was confirmed by Nintendo in an official book called the Hyrule Historia released in 2011 that there are three separate timelines that split off from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the first being a timeline in which the Hero is defeated by Ganon. The other two are offshoots that occur when Zelda sends Link back to relive his childhood, those being the Child Era and the Adult Era, the latter of which there is no Link and Ganon is allowed to return.

It’s all very messy, and something that doesn’t even really matter unless you’re big into the series, but its existence has now ensured that every time a new game is announced, fans will be desperate to find out where the title lands on the timeline. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is no exception, asfollowing its announcement during the latest Nintendo Direct, fans have been analyzing the trailer to try and figure out exactly when it takes place.
The Legend Of Zelda Fans Are Trying To Place Echoes Of Wisdom On The Timeline
What most people agree upon is that Echoes of Wisdom takes place somewhere in the Decline Timeline, which follows the Hero of Time’s defeat at the hands of Ganon. Fans have already noticed thatthe game’s map looks extremely similar to that of A Link to the Past, and an image of the River and Ocean Zora meeting with each other seems to indicate that the game shares the same timeline as Oracle of Seasons, the only other game in the series in which the two interact.
The big question is where exactly Echoes of Wisdom sits on the Decline Timeline. One of the prevailing theories is thatthis is a sequel to Link’s Awakening, and takes place after he travels back to Hyrule and comes up against a resurrected Ganon. Of course, Echoes of Wisdom has the same art style as the Link’s Awakening remake, which helps the argument, but there are also arguments that this could be the bridge between Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past due to similar outfits.
Wherever it lands, I’m sure fans of the series will have fun speculating before Nintendo clears it up itself. Then again, it’s possible the company may never place it on the timeline, as it’s been rather shy about messing around with it recently. Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdomstill don’t have a confirmed place, and who knows what’s going to happenwhen the Zelda movie finally comes out? I’m sure people that are more Zelda-pilled than you and I will eventually figure it out.
