It’s been a pretty great time for gaming’s most iconic heroines recently, as Princess Peach and Zelda will have both received their own spinoff titles by the end of this year.Princess Peach: Showtime was released earlier this year, finally giving the long-standing damsel in distress her own adventure, while Nintendo will also make Princess Zelda playable in a mainline title for the first time upon the release ofthe recently announced The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
With Peach and Zelda getting their own spotlight, it’s caused many to turn to their own favorite games and look at their female characters in a different light, and Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been the most vocal so far. Sticking on the theme of damsels in distress, Sonic fans have been yusing the announcement of Echoes of Wisdom to call for a standalone game for Amy Rose.
Sonic Fans Are Calling For A Standalone Amy Rose Game
Of course, the parallels between Amy Rose and Zelda aren’t quite there, as Amy has been playable in quite a few Sonic games in the past, including Sonic Adventure, Heroes and, most recently, Superstars. Still, there are many fans that believe she’s overdue a game of her very own, with over 36,000 peopleliking a tweet from DynamoSuperX, who originally brought up the idea.
Failing that, there are also quite a few people who would like to see a standalone game for Blaze too. Unlike Amy, she’s been playable in far fewer titles, and is quite an overlooked character in general, having been introduced in Sonic Rush way back in 2005. She’s rocked up in plenty of games since then, but rarely as a playable character. There are even calls for Amy and Blaze to share the spotlight, though something tells me that’s even more unlikely than them getting standalone titles.
Still,if we can get a full-on Year of Shadow, then there’s no reason we can’t get a Year of Amy in the future, even if she is far less popular. We need to get past Sonic x Shadow Generations before that can happen, which isset to launch in October later this year. After that, the road is clear for the Amy x Blaze sweep.
