Summary

Nexon’sThe First Descendanthas already come under fire for a multitude of reasons.Aggressive microtransactionsanddubious drop rateshave already marred what could have been a wonderful start for the free-to-play shooter.

And, while it continues tobreak its own concurrent player record on Steam, the game’s players are now getting frustrated at each other for the perceived overuse of one of its many Descendants, Bunny.

Breeding Like Rabbits

Bunny was always likely to be one of The First Descendant’s most popular characters. Described as a “dealer of continuous damage”, Bunny ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to the male gaze and the way that she looks, especially with some of the cosmetics that are available to her in the store. However, while she was always likely to be in demand, her popularity has become untenable for many non-Bunny players, who’ve taken to the internet to complain.

The First Descendant is, for the most part, a team-based game in which team composition is important. To succeed, you’re likely to need characters with a range of skills and attributes, something you’re not going to get if the majority of your squad is playing the same character.

Animpassioned post on Redditcalled Bunny “the worst character” and goes into great detail on how “she is useless” before telling players to “please, please, please stop playing Bunny.” The rant, as you can imagine, was met with a mixed reception.

Players were quick to state the OP had a “skill issue” that was causing his complaints and that they should “let people play how they want.” But there is seemingly an air of legitimacy to what the OP had to say. Oneplayer complainedthat “trying to do a battle with all Bunnies is a joke. They have s**t health, and I am constantly having to revive them.” Another adds that she “sucks and can’t even take one hit.”

Asecond threadclaimed the game is “95% Bunny” and that players using her “sit tunnel-visioned at the boss just shooting.” This means they’re neglecting their wider duties as a team. This thread drew more plaudits than the previous, with one user saying, “They hated him [the op] because he spoke the truth,” and another added that the player base “are stuck in the mindset that she can do everything.”

In athird thread, a poster claims that the devs are “forcing Bunny” based on how powerful she is, a common consensus among players as to why she may be so popular. Many players have shared that Bunny is “op” or “stupidly strong” and that “she’s fast and clears faster,” meaning it’s a “no-brainer to use her.”

Unlikely Alliances

The perceived overuse of Bunny has certainly caused friction within The First Descendant community; however, it’s also caused the rise of some unlikely alliances.

When not sharing Bunny memes, builds, or cosplays, many of the posts on the game’sSubredditfocus on the character’s negative aspects. They’re not all like that, though.

One of the game’s Ajax users has stated that their “fate is to help downed Bunnies,” which has led to swathes of Bunny users thanking them for their service. Another exceedingly popular post is almost an exact flip of the Ajax one, with aBunny main thanking all Ajax players. The thread continues with both Bunny and Ajax mains lauding each other.

The First Descendant is available for free on PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox.
