Summary
The Eternal Life of Goldman just premiered at theTHQ NordicDigital Showcase. This was our first look at the game, with the reveal giving us a mix of gameplay and cinematics.
The Eternal Life of Goldman is a completely new IP and is a platformer that puts players in the role of the titular protagonist, Goldman. However, its most eye-catching feature is its art and animation style, as it seems like almost everything on screen is constantly in motion and drawn by hand.
The Eternal Life Of Goldman Announced At THQ Nordic
Ahead of the world premiere today, THQ Nordic went into slightly more detail on its latest IP at a preview event. Here, a developer was keen to hammer home that everything we see on screen is hand-paintedandhand-animated. They also made it clear that generative AI was not used as part of the process, stressing that the game is the result of “years of dedication”, even if that took much longer.
We were also shown some of the new abilities that you can unlock throughout your time with The Eternal Life of Goldman, which will be used to go after enemies and unlock paths. However, the dev did add that there isn’t a focus on backtracking, so it doesn’t seem that the team is going for a Metroidvania feel with these abilities.
We were also told about some of the inspiration behind the lore of The Eternal Life of Goldman. The devs told us that the game takes cues from various mythologies, particularly Greek, Jewish, and Mesopotamian mythologies. On top of that, they said that there is an “existential” element to The Eternal Life of Goldman, as it dives into the topic of life and death.
The Eternal Life of Goldman doesn’t have a release date right now, but from what we saw in the trailer, things are coming along nicely. When it does launch, it will be available onPlayStation 4,PlayStation 5,Xbox One,Xbox Series X/S,Nintendo Switch, andPC.
