Summary
FromSoftwarehas a knack for crafting unforgettable boss encounters, and their dragons are no exception. The dragons in FromSoftware games started off as janky and difficult bosses that were usually not as epic as you’d expect from a warrior fighting a dragon.
But as FromSoftware expanded on its roster of games and continued to polish the dragon fights, they ended up with some truly beautiful bosses that are considered some of the best fights in the game. Some dragons in FromSoftware games are bigger than others and, to differentiate by size, we can see just how far Elden Ring has come compared to the start of the series.

This massive dragon isn’t just another boss fight, it’s one of the most cinematic challenges of theShadow of the Erdtree DLC. Bayle rules the skies above the Jagged Peak, capable of destroying you with his orange lightning and fire breath in just a couple of hits.
His aggressive fighting style barely gives you any room to move, and his size makes this a fight that demands both skill and adaptability. Only the most seasoned players can hope to overcome this legendary dragon that once fought Dragonlord Placidusax to a standstill.

Found in a hidden area within Crumbling Farum Azula, Dragonlord Placidusax is evidence ofElden Ring’srich lore outside the warring demigods and the DLC. Placidusax is believed to be the Elden Lord before the Erdtree, wielding the power of red lightning and residing in an area outside time.
Despite being optional, Placidusax is not to be underestimated. Though he appears in a weakened state, missing several heads and a wing, the fight against Placidusax is still a challenging and rewarding experience and his size is nothing to scoff at, being just barely larger than Bayle.

One of the most iconic and beloved bosses in theDark Souls series is Darkeater Midir from the Ringed City DLCinDark Souls 3. Midir is graceful and deadly, with multiple attacks and a laser beam that can melt your health bar in seconds. You face him as a regular enemy on a bridge, and then later as a boss fight by taking a hidden path.
Midir’s attacks are well-telegraphed and incredibly powerful and defeating him is a worthy feat since he is considered to be the hardest boss in the Dark Souls series. His size when he has his wings out will leave you speechless, especially if it’s your first time entering his boss arena.

The Ancient Dragon’s sheer size and the oppressive atmosphere of the dragon shrine make for an encounter that you won’t soon forget inDark Souls 2. While it initially appears docile, the Ancient Dragon awakens once disturbed and will shred you without a second thought.
The battle would’ve felt more epic if the fight wasn’t as buggy as it is and is considered more annoying than difficult. Overcoming the Ancient Dragon is a rewarding experience and shows us just how big FromSoftware can make its bosses, especially dragons.

The Divine Dragon fromSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceis like a graceful serpent of death. It’s not the biggest in terms of bulk, but it’s ridiculously long and is probably one of the most artistic dragons in a FromSoftware game to date. Its lightning attacks can damage you a lot, so you’re going to have to redirect those as much as you can.
You actually fight it in two phases, the first is fighting multiple small weird-looking dragons and the second takes place in the sky as you grapple onto platforms and attempt to redirect its lightning attacks. It’s truly an epic battle and incredibly easy too,so you may just admire the visuals while fighting.

This one’s not a fight, but the sheer size of the dragon skeleton is mind-blowing. You can actually explore an entire area built around this massive carcass, which shows just how huge the dragon must have been when it was alive.
It’s an interesting reminder of the power and majesty of these creatures before the age of fire in Dark Souls 3, and it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. There are also some interesting items and enemies to discover in the area, so it’s worth checking out.

This colossal beast is found in the Underground Temple in the very first FromSoftware game,Demon’s Souls. It’s one of the largest dragons ever and wasn’t dethroned till the release of Elden Ring.
You fight this dragon from afar using a ballista, aiming for its weak spots to eventually bring it down and land the final blow. It’s a truly epic battle that’s sure to leave an impression, and, surprisingly, no FromSoftware game for a while had anything as big as this Kaiju-sized boss from Demon’s Souls.

This old-timer known as the mother of all dragons is found in the Caelid region, too old and sick with scarlet rot to fight and lying in a dormant state. It’s massive, easily as big as the Dragon God, but isn’t much of a fighter.
However, it’s surrounded by smaller dragons that will mess you up if you get too close. It’s a cool area to explore aroundand there’s a way to cheese this fight with the right bleed build, but its size and state will have you second-guess confronting it.

Another Dragon that’s a corpse is Gransax, and you only see it dead on top of Leyndell, but the body is enough to show you just how powerful and enormous this beast once was. It swooped down on the capital city of Leyndell, raining lightning and destruction everywhere, and starting the war of the Golden Order against the dragons an unspecified amount of time ago.
It’s almost the biggest dragon in any FromSoftware game, and it’s a real shame you don’t get to fight it, but you may use its corpse to navigate through Leyndell, as it’s pretty much part of the city now.

This dragon corpse is also more of a landmark than a boss, but it’s still pretty impressive. You stumble upon the massiveskeletal remains of this dragon near Jagged Peaknext to the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
Not much is known about this dragon, and little to no lore explains its presence. The YouTuber Zullie The Witch recently confirmed that it’s the biggest creature to date that FromSoftware has put into any of its games, and it makes you wonder just how this dragon met its end.
