Summary

Whether you’re facing off against an invading force like the Volgus or the Colossi, you’ve got to bring with you the best tools for the job. The character you choose inThe First Descendantis going to make up a large part of whether you succeed in the fight or not, but your weapons are just, if not more, important than the rest.

The weapons deemed the ‘best’ are completely subjective, but that shouldn’t stop you from experimenting and finding something new to try. We bring you several favorites that can help bring you back from the edge of defeat. If you’re not feeling what we’ve come up with, there’s always something new to try.

Greg’s Reversed Fate is a shortened Tactical Rifle in silver

7Greg’s Reversed Fate

Type: Tactical Rifle

Packing the power to punch through protection, Greg’s Reverse Fate can be ideal for taking on enemies rocking with a shield on the field. It’s a tactical rifle, meaning you’ll have to be precise about your shots due to the burst rounds, but for someone who is going for headshots and armor, that’s not going to be an issue for you.

Not only that, once you bust the target’s shield, you’ll cast bombardment on them, which has a chance of inflicting a burn status on them, upping the amount of damage you cause. To bring out the potential in this weapon,it’s best in the hands of descendants Blair and Esiemo, due to their affinity to fire and explosions.

Smithereens has a metallic silver body with a brown pump and handle

6Smithereens

Type: Shotgun

The shotguns in this game get kind of a bad rap for being low damage with limited range. That’s fair, of course, but it’s dismissive of the potential of these weapons. Smithereens, for example, does a good job at quickly building up your default Critical Hit rate and your Firearm Critical Damage simultaneously. The more damage you put out, the more hard-hitting it is.

Of course, this isn’t for the type of player that likes to keep their distance and go for the thousand-yard headshot. This shotgun is made for the run-and-gun, all-up-in-your-face type of players who are in the thick of all the action. Characters such as Bunny, Sharen, Ajax, and Yujin are ideal for the Smithereens. Yujin may be a healer, but you have to be in the thick of things to heal so it balances out.

Afterglow Sword’s barrel looks like a blade with a split in the middle. A scope sits on top

5Afterglow Sword

Type: Sniper Rifle

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with players who want totake control of an outpostfrom the safety of the shadows. While a sniper rifle doesn’t guarantee safety, it is a sort of buffer between you and the worst of the danger. Despite its name, the Afterglow Sword isn’t going to allow you to slice and dice in battle.

Instead, when you’re using it, you’ll gain the Death Propagation proc, which increases both your critical hit rate for your firearm and the attack that hits your target. That’s just for your run-of-the-mill mobs; if you attack an enemy commander or a colossus, that boost adds an extra 22 percent crit rate to your base.

Piercing Light has a yellowish brown hue throughout the rifle

4Piercing Light

You really can’t go wrong with a sniper rifle, can you? Piercing Light is great due to its high stopping power, but the real star of the show is the fact that it saps all the buffs the enemies attempt to cast on themselves with its Dispel ability. The trick is you have to hit the enemy’s weak point. Easy, but to bring out the full potential of the effect, you have to hit multiple enemies with thesame bullet.

The pure stopping power of this weapon makes it an appealing choice, no matter which character you pick. The Critical Rate boost can benefit everyone, but just be mindful of your play style. Running and gunning may not be the way to go with this one.

Restored Relic has a futuristic look with a white coat of paint

3Restored Relic

Type: Launcher

You’re drawing on the power of the Ancestors with this one. Typical launchers are all explosive power but lack the ability for precise hits. The Nikita Launcher fromMetal Gear Solidcomes close, but even controlling that was tricky. The Restored Relic sends a focused missile that guides itself toward your nearest target.

With each shot, you have a chance to launch a missile imbued with the fiery fury of the Ancient’s flames, which can set your targets ablaze. While you can’t manipulate how often you can activate your Ancient Fire, you’ll just have to shoot more and make up for it.

Thunder Cage is a dark colored gun with a short barrel and an exposed tip

2Thunder Cage

Type: Submachine Gun

A lot of love has been given to rifles of all types on this list, so it’s time to show some love to one of the best submachine guns you can get. Electricity in The First Descendant serves well to slowing enemies down and lowering their resistance to elemental damage.

Though there are plenty of characters, such as Kyle and Lepic, that would pair well with this gun, there’s no way that this wasn’t tailor-made for Bunny. The best thing about Thunder Cage is its special ability, Overcharge, which causes a shockwave that can damage any enemies in its vicinity. Putting Bunny in a room with an electric weapon that can clear a room with its ability? It’s no wonder she’s considered one of the stronger characters.

Divine Punishment has a white body with gold accents and blue lights

1Divine Punishment

Type: Assault Rifle

As a healer, your job could be considered harder than those which are purely for damage or to tank. Not only do you have to worry about your health, but you also have to mitigate the damage your team members are receiving while keeping up your damage against the hoards of enemies in the process. It’s a lot to keep in stock, but luckily, this gun makes it that much easier.

While using this weapon, give your party members a buff, and you’ll be given the passive proc mediation, which raises your defense. Healing any of your party members' consumables (HP, MP, Shields, etc.), and you’re given a buff for your cooldown. Lastly, casting a debuff on your enemies gives you the passive proc Glory, which makes your weapon’s attack strong. It’s versatile in how it supports a support role, making it an ideal choice of weapon for Yujin or Jayber.
