Summary
The core ofBlack Myth: Wukongis combat, and there are plenty of different abilities and items that The Destined One can equip to makeevery fight different. The one aspect that adds the most variety to combat is the spells, as they each add a new layer to consider when taking on different foes.
We’re going to look through each of the spells and rank them, excluding the Transformation spell, since there are enough separate transformations to make this its own entire category, as well asSomersault Cloud, which acts unlike other spells and cannot be used like a standard spell in combat.
6Ring Of Fire
Unmissable Unlock In Chapter 3
The last unmissable spell you unlock throughout the campaign of Black Myth: Wukong is unfortunately disappointing, and after a couple of attempts, it’s unlikely that most players will want to keep it equipped over the other superior choices that share the same slot.
Ring of Fire, as the name suggests, creates an (unfortunately quite small) ring of fire around The Destined One and grants him a few perks when he’s standing inside. The main issue is that enemies can still enter the ring and still damage you. You, of course, get to enjoy the buffs when you’re in the ring, but because of how frantic combat is in Black Myth: Wukong, there are few opportunities where you’ll be in a position where you can stand still long enough to actually appreciate this. There are some niche chances where this skill might be the best option, but it’s not worth keeping this spell equipped to find these rare moments.
5Rock Solid
Unmissable Unlock In Chapter 2
Whether you enjoyRock Solidwill massively depend on your play style, and you’ll keep it equipped depending on whether you’re willing to go to the effort to absolutely master it, or if not, you’ll likely want to keep the other option equipped in the same slot.
Rock Solid will grant you a parry ability that can be incredibly useful in a lot of different situations, but if you aren’t completely confident in your timing, you’ll either end up paralyzed or take the damage without thetime to dodge. There are a few bosses where having the ability to counter their attacks using Rock Solid can make them significantly easier, but there are a few other bosses where Rock Solid will not be a viable option. You’ll also need to master Mana management since having a parry ability relies upon using a spell, which means that you might attempt to use this ability when it’s either on cooldown or you’re out of Mana.
4Spell Binder
Optional Unlock In Chapter 3
The only optional spell throughout Black Myth: Wukong is arguably the only one that isn’t actually a spell.Spell Binder, as the name suggests, will block your ability to use any of your spells. Not just this, but also your spirit abilities, vessels, and any transformations. To balance this to make it a viable ability, you’ll receive a significant attack boost and, depending on how full your skill tree is, a few other buffs as well.
Similarly to Rock Solid, your appreciation of Spell Binder will depend massively on how you want to tackle combat in Black Myth: Wukong. By using the ability, you’re choosing to focus primarily on pure combat but have far fewer options when taking on tough enemies. However, there’s a chance that you’ll be able to take them down a lot quicker thanks to the buff. It’s worth trying out if you manage to unlock it, but there’s a likely chance that you won’t want to keep it equipped.
3Cloud Step
Unmissable Unlock In Chapter 1
One of the earliest spells that you will unlock isCloud Step, and it’s a useful utility to give yourself a chance to breathe in some of the game’s more intense battles. You’ll spawn a decoy and have a moment to freely move around and do whatever you need to before rejoining the fight with a powerful attack with a high chance of stunning the foe.
Part of the reason why Cloud Step is so useful is that you can drink from your gourd and use any medicine and even some other spells, all while the enemy has their eyes set on your decoy. This spell also doesn’t cost much Mana, making it low-commitment as well.
2A Pluck Of Many
One ability that you get to try out in the tutorial and likely want to jump at the chance to try again in the main game isA Pluck of Many, which grants The Destined One a handful of clones to distract and hopefully destroy any enemies in their path.
There are quite a few items and buffs to unlock that make these duplicates more powerful, which means you can commit a fair portion of your build into making these soldiers borderline unbeatable, but the main trade-off for the power of this ability is its high Mana cost. This means it can be fantastic for shorter bosses or even standard enemy encounters, but in longer boss fights, you might need to focus more on saving Mana for other abilities.
1Immobilize
Thefirst spell you unlockis likely the one you’re not going to want to let go of for the rest of the game. It’s no wonderImmobilizeis such an easy ability to get attached to since you get it so early on, and it’s so quick, easy, and effective to utilize.
Granting The Destined One the ability to freeze any enemy in the middle of their movements, Immobilize lets you dive in and do massive damage before your rival eventually escapes the spell. There are some enemies that have attacks that mean the ability doesn’t work on them, but most of the time, Immobilize is a great way to do massive damage or even just give yourself a chance to heal. Best of all, it casts quickly and doesn’t cost much Mana either.
