Summary

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, the tactical military shooter developed by Ubisoft Montreal, features a variety of unique locations filled with environments that are just waiting to be destroyed and rebuilt in your attempts to best the enemy team.

These destructible environments and how they can be utilized in bothattacking and defendingare what sets Rainbow Six Siege apart from its competitors, and the pool of maps draws widely from historical precedent and old classics. With such a wide variety of maps, there are bound to be some to appeal to every kind of taste. Here are some of the most memorable.

The map Border from Rainbow Six Siege

8Border

First Added In 2016

Many of the maps designed for Rainbow Six Siege feature a grounded sense of place and realism in their design, and Border is no exception. The fortified walls that make up the edges of the map set the tone, with abandoned vehicles telling the story of what must have taken place here.

The large central room that spans both floors of the building provides defenders with an uninterrupted environment to keep locked down, leaving attackers to navigatethe rooftops and side entrances to gain an advantage.

The map Chalet from Rainbow Six Siege

7Chalet

First Added In 2015

You would be hard-pressed to find a map more scenic than Chalet. Attackers begin in the woods surrounding the house before making their way across the snowy grounds to assault the stronghold within.

The basement provides an opportune location for thedefenders to really dig inand make their stand while skirmishes take place throughout the rest of the house above. If the attackers aren’t careful, however, they’ll leave themselves vulnerable to ambushes while making their initial approach.

The map Clubhouse from Rainbow Six Siege

6Clubhouse

Clubhouse is an urban map with plenty of nooks and crannies, making a more complex map than it may at first seem. A frontal assault will leave attackers very vulnerable on approach, so making use of the winding side passages is key to pressing the advantage when on the offensive.

In Rainbow Six Siege, the difference between victory and defeat can often come down to which team can take the other by surprise first, and the speech with which this is done makes all the difference.

The map Coastline from Rainbow Six Siege

5Coastline

First Added In 2017

Generally speaking, most maps in Rainbow Six Siege contain an outside portion where the attackers spawn and an inside portion that the defenders are tasked with fortifying. In many of these maps, that’s where the role of the exterior ends, with the bulk of the action taking place indoors.

Coastline excels in integrating these two halves together, making them feel like two parts of a whole. The wide open floor plan facilitates this, with recreation areas that sprawl naturally from the main building.

The map Fortress from Rainbow Six Siege

4Fortress

First Added In 2018

What Fortress lacks in frills, it makes up for in simplicity. Most of the action takes place along the winding corridors of the interior, and once the attackers are inside, it’s only a matter of sweeping room by room, floor by floor.

This leaves ample opportunity for defenders to fortify a variety of positions, and for roamers to catch attackers unaware. This can lead to action breaking out across wide swathes of the map instead of only in a single location.

The map Yacht from Rainbow Six Siege

3Yacht

What really sets Yacht apart from the rest of the maps is the sparseness. There are few locations in the game as remote as this and very little outside of the main attraction of the map: the boat.

For being one of the smaller maps in the game in terms of interior space, Yacht still manages to create a distinct mood and feel for each individual section of the boat, ensuring that no part is ever boring and setting each of them apart visually as well as how to best approach them.

The map Oregon from Rainbow Six Siege

2Oregon

Oregon, fittingly, is one of the more sprawling maps in the game. Every aspect of the map has room to breathe, as would be expected from this rural setting. This leaves ample opportunity for a variety of different experiences to play out on this map, depending on where the defenders are tasked with securing.

The average game on Oregon might see entire sections of the house go unused, but with enough simplicity to remain serviceable as flank routes without ever getting confusing.

The map Bank from Rainbow Six Siege

1Bank

In a game like Rainbow Six Siege, there’s nothing more archetypal than a level set in a bank. With attackers starting on the street, the action quickly moves inside to the wide-open lobby areas of the building.

From there, they are continually funneled down through the comparatively more dense office sections of the map, with the vault lying at the center of it all. This is a classic map with an intuitive layout and a great introduction to the type of gameplay that Siege excels at providing.
