This article contains spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3.
9Let Lae’zel Slit Your Throat
If Lae’zel is in your party, she will try to slit your throat in the night out of fear of your tadpole. She offers to make your end quick, and you have the choice of whether or not you wish to give in to her suggestion.
People in good standing with the githyanki may be surprised to find her threats ring true, even if youwish to romance her. She will kill you on the spot, resulting in game over. Players who are used to trusting their companions may be shocked by what seemed obvious in hindsight.

8Jumping Into The Underdark
Exploration is a big part of Baldur’s Gate 3, and you may make daring jumps to get to new places. Stumbling upon what seems to be a shortcut to the Underdark in the Blighted Village, you’re able to jump into a hole of spiderwebs, believing something will break your fall.
Unfortunately, unless you have certain spells up your sleeve, your character will fall hundreds of feet to your death in a sudden cutscene. That’s what you get for jumping into the creepy pit withoutdoing your fall damage research.

You can use Featherfall to make this jump to the Underdark alive.
7Auntie Ethel Masks
Auntie Ethelis one of the recurring villains throughout the game. When you’re exploring her quests, you may be tempted to put on one of the mysterious masks her victims always wear, thinking it’s just another wearable accessory.
Predictable in hindsight, the mask brainwashes your character, turning you into one of the hag’s slaves. This quickly prompts a game over screen, cutting your Baldur’s Gate journey short. Perhaps putting on the creepy mask isn’t a good idea after all.

6Kissing The Mind Flayer
One of the first choices you encounter in Act 1 is whether to help the hurt Mind Flayer in the ship wreckage. This scenario can lead to the first instant death cutscene available in the game.
The dying illithid attempts to persuade you to come closer. If you’re curious enough to lean in for a kiss, he will eat your brain, resulting in an immediate game over. Players who thought the strange interaction would simply be funny are often shocked by the turn of events. Don’t worry, you have another chance tokiss a Mindflayerlater.

5Monastery Solar Beam
The Rosymorn Monastery in the Mountain Pass is filled with puzzles, including a quest to get the powerful mace, The Blood of Lathander.
Unknowingly, you may force the weapon out of its location. Suddenly, you only have a certain few turns to escape before a superweapon destroys the entire building with the full concentrated power of the sun. Astarion, in particular, has a hilarious reaction to dying here once revived by Withers.

You need the Dawnmaster’s Crest to get the weapon without triggering the blast.
4Failing To Revive Gale
Always one for theatrics, Gale leaves a hologram behind in camp if he perishes in battle. His illusion explains heneeds to be resurrectedwithin three days, or there will be detrimental consequences.
If you ignore his instructions, his orb will explode after two Long Rests, wiping out your entire party and much of the surrounding area. This is, obviously, game over for you. Next time, you’ll reconsider ignoring the beloved Wizard of Waterdeep.

3Surrendering To Astarion
Astarion lovers are surprised by this particular instant death. If you have a thing for vampires, you may be tempted to allow him tokeep feeding on youthe first night he reveals his true nature.
Unfortunately, if you surrender to his bloodlust, there is no happy ending. You don’t turn into a vampire or earn his undying love. He simply drains you of blood, and you die. Game over.

2Defying Vlaakith
Whenyou encounter Vlaakith, you may be tempted to deny her when she commands you to enter the Astral Prism and kill whoever resides there. If you are disrespectful or refuse her, she will use a powerful Wish spell.
This spell immediately kills the entire group, catching players off guard. Annoying a githyanki queen with a simple wave certainly has its consequences.

1Giving Your Soul To Harleep
Some players get a little too excited when they have the option to get steamy with Raphael’s look-a-like. His personal incubus, Harleep, has a lascivious proposition for youif you want to avoid a fight.
If you get too wrapped up in your encounter and offer your heart and soul to the doppelganger, it results in an immediate game over. This is probably the most embarrassing ending, as your entire party watches you pleasure yourself to death.
