Summary

With how linear a lot of the progression inBlack Myth: Wukongis, you might be surprised to find out just how many secret and hidden areas are so easy to overlook on your journey through the campaign.

It’s not only fun to explore all these hidden details, but it’s also massively rewarding. Whether you’re getting rare bonuses for completing quests in these regions, or getting new armor and weapon upgrades, these secret areas are always worth looking out for. So, where should you be keeping your eyes peeled for straying pathways, and what can you get for finding these hidden havens?

7Secret: Ancient Guanyin Temple

One of the easier to locate secret areas in the first chapter of Black Myth: Wukong is the Ancient Guanyin Temple, but it’s always worth tracking down, especially if you’re still in Chapter 1. When you’re exploring the opening areas of the game, you’ll find three ominous bells, and you’re going to want to ring all of them when you get the chance.

While it might seem like the game is discouraging you at first, by doing this you’ll find yourself in the Ancient Guanyin Temple, and with the option to fight Elder Jinchi.

This is a tricky boss at this point in the game, but by beating him you’ll obtain your first vessel, which will make beating the final boss of the area much easier.

6Secret: Kingdom of Sahali

Finding the secret area in Chapter 2 is a lot more involved than it is in Chapter 1, and you’ll need to do quite a bit of seemingly random backtracking. By helping out the strange boar you’ll find (who is pretty hidden himself), you’ll eventually find passage back to the Kingdom of Sahali.

Here you’ll get a massive desert to explore with its own host of secrets, but you’ll also get a couple of boss fights, all ending with you getting the second vessel. This vessel is much more useful than the first and will ensure that you struggle a lot less with the final boss fight of the chapter.

5Melon Fields

Unlike the formal secret areas in the first two chapters, there isn’t a dedicated secret area in Chapter 3 (upon first visit at least) and instead, the areas you’ll explore will just be a lot more open-ended. One of the trickiest areas to stumble across by accident is the Melon Fields.

When wandering around the Forest of Felicity, you’ll have to do some pretty awkward platforming to find the Melon Fields (an area (at least initially) completely devoid of any melons) but not much else is there. To activate the story of this area, go back to the forest and keep an eye out for a chilly traveller who’ll need help from a certain flame-wielding Destined One.

4Ruyi Scroll Realm

One of the most convenient and important locations you’ll unlock in Black Myth: Wukong is the Ruyi Scroll Realm. This can be found during Chapter 3, and it’s surprisingly hard to find if you don’t know where to look.

After departing Turtle Island, you’ll get to explore the sprawling Bitter Lake, and if you don’t happen to keep your eye on a certain part of the ocean, you’ll completely miss Loong Chen. Make sure to beat him, and subsequently help him out to eventually unlock the Ruyi Scroll Realm where you’ll have all helpful NPCs in one convenient location, as well as the new garden and smithy.

You’ll even unlocka new transformationby beating Yin Tiger in this realm, but he’s not an easy fight.

3Secret: Purple Cloud Mountain

For the majority of Chapter 4 you’ll find yourself in creepy hamlets, dark and threatening caves, and only at the end you’ll get a respite in the beautiful temple. Turns out you’ll get an even better reward for paying attention throughout the chapter with the stunning Purple Cloud Mountain.

By beating Venom Daoist twice, he’ll finally give you the entrance to the Purple Cloud Mountain near the end of the chapter, and this is one of the more expansive secret areas with multiple shrines and a few different tasks. By completing the main quest in this area, you’ll get a vessel that willmake the final boss of the Chaptera lot more simple to take down.

Make sure you get all the rewards from this location before completing Chapter 4, since at launch you’ll get soft-locked from completing certain quests in this area after doing so.

2Offshoots of Furnace Valley

Compared to the previous chapters, your journey throughout Chapter 5 will likely be a lot quicker, as well as more linear too. This means that there aren’t many formally hidden areas, but there are a few you can easily miss.

For example, when working through Furnace Valley, there are a couple areas hidden deep by the lava that you won’t be able to find unless you stray off the beaten path.

There is even the final step in a multi-stage quest for a new transformation hidden here.

1Secret Ending: Mount Mei

The most hidden area throughout Black Myth: Wukong is so hidden that it’s actually impossible to find until you’ve hit the credits. After beating the game’s standard ending, you’ll be able to reopen your save file and complete any stray quests you might have missed.

Once you’ve completed certain prerequisites, you’ll be able to enter through a previously sealed wall in the Chapter 3 map to enter the hidden Mount Mei. This area is where you’ll find the last few bosses and finally be able to achieve the secret ending.
