TheNintendo Switchis a console meant for the whole family, and as such, you can find plenty of Disney-themed games on it for everyone to enjoy. Most of these include Mickey in some way, while others are classics from years ago that have found new life on the handheld device.
If you want to play as the many Disney characters, or simply befriend them, there is a game for you here. Since the Disney brand is so large, we only focused on games about the central theme park characters that also include others from popular movies.
While the undisputed king of Kart racing games is Mario Kart, Disney Speedstorm is basically the same idea but with Disney characters. The biggest selling point of Speedstorm is that, as a free game, you can try it at any time and decide if it is for you.
It will take time for you to unlock characters if you don’t want to spend any money; but if you are a Disney fan, that time will be well spent as you assemble your collection. Of course, you’ll need a Nintendo Online subscription in order to play online with other players.
If you’re wondering what a Tsum Tsum is, or why Mickey is suddenly a four-legged creature, those two inquiries go hand in hand. A Tsum Tsum is a stackable Japanese toy, often depicting characters from popular media, and the Disney variants have had a mobile game pack full of minigames for a while now.
Disney Tsum Tsum Festival, exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, brings that minigame joy to the console with brand-new graphics and a few novel minigames. It works as a Mario Party game for the youngest of audiences, with the option to collect all the Tsum Tsums as you play along.
5Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition
Explore The Parks
Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition is an upgraded version of the Nintendo 3DS title, bringing to the Switch the joy of exploring Disney World and having a home there. Just like many 3DS titles, you can create a character with your likeness and have it play with Mickey and his friends.
These characters are called the Mii, with many games supporting their use, so if you already have one created, you’ll get started with the Magical World in no time. The gameplay is mostly reliant on minigames, so it is a perfectly suitable game for younger audiences.
4Disney Classic Games Collection
3 Games In 1
The Disney Classic Games Collection is a combination of 3 games from back in the day, repackaged so you can enjoy them from the comfort of the Switch. These games are The Jungle Book, Aladdin, and The Lion King, in all their 2D glory.
Admittedly, the most popular entries from the collection are Aladdin and The Lion King, so fortunately there is a bundle of the Collection that is cheaper, including only those two. Still, all three are worth your time, and you’ll find that they are just as hard as when they first came out.
Disney Illusion Islanddelivers the Mickey Mouse magic in a new way, both with its art style and gameplay mechanics. It is a metroidvania without the difficulty we’ve come to expect from the genre, making it approachable by everyone while still maintaining an engaging gameplay loop.
The best part is that up to four players can join the fray, and they can even help each other with healing hugs. With this being one of the more recent games on the list, it shows that Mickey still has plenty of adventures ahead of him, in more places than just a theme park.
The Kingdom Hearts series of games has characters from both the Final Fantasy franchise and the Disney World, but the main focus is placed on Disney. After all, most of the worlds you visit are based on some Disney movie, and your main companions are usually Donald and Goofy.
If you’ve never played any game from the series, then you can expect quite a long adventure, filled with dark enemiesand familiar faces. The series is still ongoing, but you can find all games released in their brand-new collections on the switch.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is the ultimate life simulation game for the Disney fan, with many activities you’ve come to expect from the genre being themed around Disney characters. The shop, for example, is run by Scrooge McDuck, while the restaurant where you cook your meals belongs to Remy from Ratatouille.
The character you create is highly detailed when compared to other options from the genre, and you can create and unlock many items based on Disney franchises. The neighborhood is fully customizable as well, since you decide where the house of each character goes; it is up to you to prioritize style or ease of access to each place.
The real selling point for Disney fans is thateach character has their own questline, based around who they are or what their adventure was about. Some characters, like Ariel and Ursula, have special questlines revolving around their land-dwelling cosmetics, so there are plenty of secrets to uncover in the valley.
