Summary

Who wants to live forever? Most people, probably. And most Sims too. As short-lived as these little creatures can be, they’re so full of vim and vigor that their deaths can be quite shocking to players. Unless, of course, this player has playedthe Sims 3longer than a few seconds. Causing Sim death is as much a part of the game as expansions and stuff packs.

But which deaths are the best? What’s the grimmest way to meet the Grim Reaper? Which deaths go above and beyond in terms of animation, lore, or just pure silliness? Anyone can drop a Murphy bed on a Sim. It takes a knack for being mean to these pixel people to be a true Simmer. And the Sims 3 had some famous (or infamous) ways to be mean to the pixel people. Let’s take a trip back beforehappy hauntsand revel in the 2010s chaos These are the best Sim death types from the Sims 3.

Transmutation Sims 3 from the Sims 3

8Transmutation

All That Glitters…

This death can be a net positive for Sims, or at least, it can be a net positive for their bank accounts. This particularly nasty little death occurs when a Sim suffers a failure using the Philosopher’s Stone, a reward object introduced with the Supernatural expansion, and the plumbob will rise from the podium as the horrified Sim watches.

They will attempt to flee but will be turned to solid gold, and the Grim Reaper will come to claim the Sim’s soul, but the golden statue will be left behind. The statue can then be moved to wherever the player wishes within the lot, and yes, it can be sold; in fact, it is quite profitable to sell. Who says nothing good can come from death?

Sims 3 Thirst Death from Sims 3

7Thirst

A Bloody Nasty Death

While Vampires in the Sims 3 are hardier creatures than their Sims 2 counterparts, they can still die, as they’re just as vulnerable to other death types as other Sims, such as shark attacks or transmutation. And, of course, the old classics can get them too, such as fire or drowning, but they also gain a special death type.

Death by Thirst happens when a vampire Sim goes without Plasma for too long; they will choke and sputter, and stretch a hand out desperately before collapsing into dust. Their ghost type is especially spooky. It is a dark red with a pulse beating where their heart would be, forever throbbing for want of blood. Creepy!

Electrocution Death from Sims 3

6Electrocution

Truly Shocking

The risk of electrocution has been in the Sims series since the very first game. Sims who attempt to repair electronics without the required skills risk the reward of a nasty shock, and those who try to do repairs on an empty stomach or with little sleep may earn an especially fatal reward.

Add a puddle to stand in and that’s a recipe for a tech-related disaster; Electrocution in the Sims 3 only comes after a Sim has been shocked twice, adding a sense of fate to this death. The ghost type made by this death sparks electricity, with the cause of death lingering even after the Sim has died.

Fire from the Sims 3

5Fire

Disco Inferno

There arelots of fun things to do in the Sims; one of the most fun things is starting fires, or at least, that’s what Simmers seem to spend most of their time doing. Pretty much any Simmer under the sun has tossed a grilled cheese into the oven, made their Sim ignore it, and watched that poor little grilled cheese burst into flames, or the Sim may even ignore the cooking food themselves! Sims can be silly that way.

Anyway, fires are a common menace wherever Sims dwell, and the Sims 3 only made them more common with its open world; a Sim could be off visiting a friend, but all it would take is one rogue pot of mac and cheese to turn that outing into a tragedy. Finally, an honorary mention goes toDeath by Meteorfor being a similar but distinct way to die in the Sims 3, as meteor strikes can also cause fires, so unless players want a Sim to die like a T.Rex, book it if a large shadow is seen overhead.

Drowning from Sims 3

4Drowning

Fancy A Dip?

If there’s a more famous death in the Sims 3, let alone in the Sims series, then it needs to step up its PR game- because Death by Drowning is one of the most talked about causes of death for a Sim. Who hasn’t opened Sunset Valley, tossed a few Sims into a pool, and gotten rid of the pool ladder? Infamous for being easy for players to cause, the Sims 3 attempted to stem the tide of drowned souls by allowing Sims to lift themselves out of the pool.

This was a first for the series and marked a technological milestone for the Sims team; naturally, Simmers figured out how to get around it, and by simply building a few walls around the pool, Sims will remain trapped. There are two more ways to drown in the Sims 3; Magician Sims can fail an escape and Die by Watery Death during a magic show, and Scuba Diving Sims can be drowned in the open sea if they run out of air.

Cowplant from Sims 3

3Cowplant

Nom, Nom, Nom

Simmers and their Cowplants, name a more beloved duo. The bond between real-life people and their murderous Sim-eating plant is one of the strongest in all of video game history, but that bond hasn’t grown on good deeds and regular feedings alone, oh no; the reason the Cowplant is so beloved by the Sim community is because of what it can do.

Cowplants are notorious for munching on random innocent Sims, and all it takes is one piece of delicious-looking cake to trick a wayward Sim, and then- chomp! Sims who are eaten by the Cowplant in the Sims 3 sadly do not get a custom ghost color, but they do get turned into life-extending elixir, and they keep the beloved Cowplant well fed, which is rewarding all on its own, right?

Mummy Death from the Sims 3

2Mummy Curse

Prince Imhotep Thanks You For Your Hospitality

The Sims 3 introduced a ton of life states to the series. Fairies, Imaginary Friends, Mermaids, but the most ominous by far is the Mummy. The Mummy is a tomb-dwelling creature that can be encountered while adventuring on vacation, they’re very slow so they can be outrun.

But if they aren’t outrun, they’ll attack Sims and possibly curse them, and they only have two weeks from then on to cure themselves; as the time runs out, a haze begins to cover the game window. The mummy’s face will flicker on the screen as if it is watching the hapless Sim, making the Mummy Curse death one of the few deaths that feel actually malevolent.

Time Anomaly from the Sims 3

1Time Anomaly

It’s Just A Jump To The Left…

The last Sims 3 expansion pack was Into the Future, and in this expansion, Sims could travel into the, er, future. This was very fun and exciting for players, but a word of caution to the careless Sim; mind your timelines, as those who travel back in time after a little too much meddling may find themselves paradoxical.

Sims can become afflicted with Time Paradox Sickness, which can quickly spiral out of control, and those unable to cure their sickness will start to blink in and out of existence. Thankfully this death is easily avoided with a trip to the hospital, but those who want to see the paradox play out will watch their Sim vanish from reality and be considered dead

This death, while uncommon, is one of the darkest deaths in the series and one of the more ingenious details in the Sims 3. Send some Sims on a trip through the timeways to see for themselves, but perhaps the results will be more than they bargained for…
