Summary

A video game set in Matt Reeves’The Batmanuniverse is reportedly in the works atWarner Bros. Interactive Entertainmentand seemingly stopped David Zazlav from selling the division altogether.

As anyone whogroaned while watching the Batman: Arkham Shadow revealwill be well aware of - we all want a new triple-A Batman game. Not a Suicide Squad game, not a VR-only title, and not a multiplayer Batfamily adventure, but a proper Batman game that lets you step into Da Bat’s brooding boots and go up against his iconic villains.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a dedicated big-budget Batman-centric game, but it seems like that might be changing in the near future, as it’s been reported that Warner Bros. is closely working on some of its Discovery properties, including one that seems to be set in Matt Reeves' The Batman universe.

The Batman Game Reportedly In Development At Warner Bros.

As pointed out by ChiefLeef22 over on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, thisreport comes courtesy of Puck, a news site that is a very reliable source for stories about movies and what’s going on behind the scenes at studios. The article discusses the current state of Warner Bros. Discovery and how its CEO, David Zazlav, is going to approach selling assets.

The article notes that AT&T tried to sell the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment unit for $4 billion, but decided against it because it was “too valuable to unload”. After Zazlav took over as CEO, he was reportedly told to get rid of the gaming division, something that was refused because he thought keeping it was “strategic”

Puck then reports that several Warner Bros. Discovery teams are collaborating “closely” on properties, including “the upcoming Penguin HBO show and game, both rooted in the 2022 The Batman movie”. It’s not clear if the game will be based more on The Batman or Penguin, but it seems that some kind of gaming project is in the works.

It was recently reported thatWarner Bros. was interested in working with other studios and letting them use their licenses, although that doesn’t appear to be the case here.

So far, Warner Bros. Interactive hasn’t revealed anything about gaming projects set in The Batman universe, but it does seem like a no-brainer considering how well the movie did. As great as a Penguin game sounds, I think we’re all hoping that Puck is instead referring to a game that lets you play as Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
