Utility Items are arguably more important than a crewmate’s primary weapon inSteamworld Heist 2.The extra perks and powers that they offer are just the edge you need to win battles against the numerically superior Royal Navy, Rattler Cult, and other foes you’ll face on the Great Sea.
You’ll probably change each teammate’s loadout often to suit each individual situation, but when in doubt, it’s hard to go wrong with these top-shelf assets. In the right clamps, these Utility Items will make your crew worthy of legends across the Core System.
10Pain Amulet
It’s safe to say that your crew is going to take a lot of damage over the course of the game. With thePain Amulet, you may make that damage work for you bydealing two points right back to any enemy that harms the wielder.It only works once per attack, so an enemy won’t find themselves blow away by their own shotgun blast unless they’re already in critical condition, but every little bit helps!
The Pain Amuletstacks with Chimney’s Tit-For-Tatability, allowing her to deal a total of four damage back to attackers if she has it equipped.
9Critical Rounds
The best way to deal heavy damage in Steamworld Heist 2 is to land a critical hit - better known as a headshot. Hitting an enemy in the noggin has afifty percent chance of scoring a critical hit, increasing the overall damage dealt. The extra damage is usuallyjust one point, butCritical Rounds add two more to the bonus.
All melee attacks have a chance to score a critical hit, as do direct hits with explosives, even if they aren’t to the head.
Critical Rounds are best paired withPrecision Goggles, whichdramatically increase the chance of landing a critical hitand also grant an extra damage boost when doing so.
8Stun Grenade
Grenades are an important part of your arsenal, usually for their exceptional area damage. TheStun Grenadedeals almost no damage, but as its name implies itleaves all targets Stunned for a round.Stunnedenemiescan’t act at all, potentially saving you from a lot of damage if you stop a large group. That buys you time to pull your crew out of danger, eliminate the threat, or secure the mission’s objectives!
7Ultimate Badge
You can find several Badges throughout the game, whichincrease the amount of Experience the wearer earns from missions.They’re a great way to speed up learning new abilities, especially if you want to get a crewmate back to their main Job quickly.
The best of the bunch is the Ultimate Badge, whichincreases experience gain by a whopping eighty percent.Daisy in particular can benefit from this exceptional accessory, since her Cog costs for equipping skills is reduced by herStudiousability.
6Warm Gloves
Extra melee damageis always welcome, especially since Brawlers tend to have defense-focused skills. If that bonus comes with an extra perk, so much the better! The Warm Gloves offer a very respectable+2 Melee Damage, and alsoprotect the wearer from the damage inflicted by being Chilled and Frozen.
It’s important to remember that the Warm Glovesdon’t actually prevent the wearer from becoming Frozen, it just keeps them from taking damage as a result.
5Sentinel Generator
Cover is generally the best protection against attacks, but there are plenty of opportunities for enemies to attack from above or below, making cover much less effective. For situations like that,Armor can mean the difference between staying in the fightor getting sent to the scrap heap.
The Sentinel Generator doesn’t offer any Armor until it’s activated, but when it’s turned on itgrants protection to the wearer and all adjacent allies.It’s great when nearby cover has been destroyed or if you’re expecting a heavy barrage that you can’t do anything else about.
4Super Aura Booster
Aura abilities are excellent, but they’re typically limited by their short range. Most Auras have a radius of one measly tile, making them hard to set up in a way that fits a given tactical situation.
The Super Aura Booster solves that problem and then some,increasing the range of all the user’s Auras by two.That’s a huge difference, and allows for much more flexibility withEngineer buffs,War Cry, and more.
3Sushi Sidearm
Sidearms are a great add-on for Brawlers, who eventually unlock the ability to use them as Free Actions. TheSushi Sidearmis the best of the bunch, packing a massive punch ofeight base damage; the enemy will probably wish the Brawler had decided to go with their Hammer instead.
Combined with abilities from other Jobs like the Flanker’sBackbiter,the Sushi Sidearm is capable oftaking out enemies all on its own, especially if you can manage a critical hit with it.
2Air Stim
TheAir Stim is the most useful Repair Item in the game. Not only does it heal an incredible four HP, but it does so from anywhere on the map. It canonly be used once per mission, of course, but its power and versatility make it a key part of your late-game kit.
Tristan is the best character to carry the Air Stim, as he can use it as a Free Action and gets a small self-repair when he uses it on someone else.
1Portable Rocket
Don’t let its cartoonish looks fool you; the Portable Rocket is aBoomer’s best friend.Unlike other grenades - yes, it counts as a grenade - itfires like a rocket launcher, complete with an Aimline to help you ensure that you’re blowing up your intended targets. It has an enormous blast radius and a damage rating to match, so you can use it to reduce a large cluster of enemies to a pile of smoking cogs.
Wesley’sGrenadierability lets him use the Portable Rocket as a Free Action, and the Level 4 Boomer skillSqeezegives it an extra use per mission.
