Summary
Nintendois already trying to stop scalpers from going after theSwitch’s successor. Speaking with shareholders, the company says that it is confident that it will avoid the stock shortages that were felt during the Switch’s run, making it harder for scalpers to take advantage of buyers.
This comes directly from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, who says that with the semiconductor shortage out of the way, the company can aim to make enough Switch 2 models to meet demand. He says that this should be enough to stop scalpers from reselling the Switch 2 for inflated prices, as we’ve seen across the industry this console generation.

Part Shortages Won’t Affect The Switch 2, Says Nintendo’s President
“Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has now been resolved,” says Furukawa, speaking with investors (as spotted byVGC). “At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”
That “successor model” is often referred to as the Switch 2, but thatisn’t actually the confirmed name for the console. We know it exists, and we know that it will beannounced by at least early 2025, but right now, we’re still waiting for the console to be unveiled by Nintendo.

Of course, even if Nintendo is hopeful that it can supply enough stock to meet demand, that doesn’t mean that scalpers won’t try to profit from the Switch 2’s release anyway. As we see throughout the industry, resellers are always trying to see what they can get away with, inflating the prices of everythingfrom consolesandgames, to evencodes for beta testing periods. So, we can expect some to try and resell the Switch 2 on sites like eBay when the console finally launches. Hopefully, though, Nintendo can maintain enough stock to stop these scalpers from being the only way fans can secure a console.
As for the Switch 2’s announcement, we’ll just have to keep waiting. Nintendo hasalready confirmed that it’s skipping Gamescom this year, so it’s possible that it will host its own reveal towards the end of the year.
