Mario Party Jamboree Revealed At June’s Nintendo Direct
The trailer gives us a good look at some of the new mechanics coming to Mario Party, and not just its traditional board game modes. We also get a look at the other multiplayer mechanics, including the one that lets us play with 19 other players online.
It’ll be interesting to see how Super Mario Party Jamboree pulls off having so many players in a game at once. As per the trailer’s description, the 20-player option seems to be restricted to the “Koopathlon” mode. This is likely to be a bit livelier than the usual board game, since otherwise, it would get pretty tedious waiting for your turn ahead of 19 other players.
As for the traditional game modes, we’re told that there will be seven boards altogether, all with their own gimmicks that add new ways to get more stars than your opponents. Five of the boards are brand new, and we get a look at them in the trailer. The other two, however, are returning from previous Mario Party games: Mario’s Rainbow Castle from the first game, and Western Land from Mario Party 2.
When Super Mario Party Jamboree launches, it will be the first new game in the series sinceMario Party Superstarsin 2021. It will be the third one to launch onNintendo Switch.
Given its release date of October 17, we can also expect this to be the final Mario Party game that releases on the Switch. It’s been widely reported thatthe Switch’s successor is coming next year, but it is also said to be backwards compatible. This would explain why Nintendo is still announcing games for the Switch, even as it’s firmly at the end of its life cycle.
