Summary
There’s been a lot of anticipation surroundingSonic x Shadow: Generationssince its announcement. Sonic Team’s ‘Year of the Shadow’ has excited many as Shadow the Hedgehog has always been a fan-favourite.
Sonic Team has released a few more screenshots of their upcoming title, one a render of Black Doom, the archenemy of Shadow, and two featuring Sonic romping around Sky Sanctuary. Black Doom has been slightly re-designed to reflect the more colourful art style of Sonic Generations, he’s now sporting colourful crystals.

Year of the Shadow
Black Doom is the main antagonist of 2005’s Shadow the Hedgehog, the first game to feature Shadow as a protagonist. The inspiration behind Shadow the Hedgehog was to capitalise on his popularity, and demystify his mysterious past for fans. As it turns out, in a Darth Vader-esque move Black Doom was the one who helped Gerald Robotnik create Shadow.
Black Doom once again opposes Shadow in Shadow Generations. He’s been resurrected through unknown means and if we know anything about Black Doom, he’s probably going to try and bring about that Grand Prosperity master plan he was cooking twenty years ago. Safe to say, we can expect an epic confrontation between the pair once more.

Shadow Generations isn’t only drawing from Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) though, Sonic Team is striving to show the full breadth of Shadow’s story over the two decades since his first appearance. Shadow’s appearances in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Sonic ‘06 are confirmed to appear in Shadow Generations.
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka revealed that the team chose levels from Shadow’s past based on how popular and interesting they were with fans. If Sonic Team were brave, they’d recreate the entirety of Shadow’s campaign from Sonic ‘06.
Sonic x Shadow Generations is set to release on October 22 of this year for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
