Summary

Paramount finally sharedthe first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailerover the weekend, revealingShadow—played by Keanu Reeves—Maria, and Gerald Robotnik. But there’s a specific scene involving Tom “Donut Lord” Wachowski that has fans worried.

In the globe-trotting trailer, we see Shadow beating up a bunch of government goons before cutting to Tom lying on the floor, screaming Sonic’s name. Fans think this shot takes place right before his death, explaining why Sonic looks so angry later in the trailer—this is his Uncle Ben moment.

Busted Co-Founder James Bourne Wrote A Song For The Movie That Seems To Back This Up

Tomcouldbe yelling Sonic’s name because Sonic himself is in danger, but going by the lyrics Busted co-founder James Bourne shared in a preview of a song he wrote for the movie, I’m leaning towards this being the Donut Lord’s last bite.

Bourne said back in July that the song he wrotemight not get used, but he sharedthis teaserjust three weeks ago.

In the brief snippet, we hear, “Back in the Green Hill Zone, this time I’m on my own”. This is likely from the perspective of Sonic as he leaves Earth after losing his family. Whatever the truth is behind these lyrics, it points to a far less cheery tone than the last two movies.

Even if Tom does die, Sonic 3 could end up taking a similar route to Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame with the sequel seeing Sonic travel back in time to undo whatever happens in this movie, perhaps taking inspiration fromSonic CD. If that’s the case, it might not just be Tom who kicks the bucket in this film.

It would be a great parallel to Shadow if it does happen, since the movie looks like it’s adapting Maria’s death from the games.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releases later this year on December 21, so we don’t have to wait long to find out what happens to the Donut Lord. It’ll be a depressing Christmas if fans are right, though.
