Summary

CapcomandSNKfans rejoice! During Saturday’s Evo 2024 stream, Capcom announced SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos for thePS4,Nintendo Switchand PC. What’s more, the game is out now. Like, right now.

For the uninitiated, SVC Chaos is a 2003 arcade fighter. Similar to other crossover games, SVC Chaos sees characters from SNK’s various series go head-to-head against fighters from Capcom. It’s a cult classic fighter that was never truly widely available until today. That’s because while it appeared in arcades and on the Neo Geo, its PS2 and Xbox ports weren’t nearly as widely available.

It’s true, only the Xbox port of SVC Chaos made it to North America, while both ports were seen in other regions.A report from 2004 states that Sony did not approve of SVC Chaos on PS2 as a standalone. Ironically, the report states that Sony was “also very concerned about games bringing a ‘new experience’ to the system.” However, after Saturday’s announcement, that is no longer the case.

SVC Chaos Boasts 36 Characters, Plus Rollback

According to the game’s official Steam page, it’ll run fighting game enthusiasts a modest $19.99. It’s a single-player title with online multiplayer elements, and split-screen is also apparently being supported. A description of the game is as follows:

SVC CHAOS—a dream match of epic proportions! Worlds collide as 36 iconic characters across various series from SNK (mainly THE KING OF FIGHTERS) and CAPCOM (mainly STREET FIGHTER) do battle in a frantic fight to the finish! Brand-new rollback netcode and tournament modes allow for fun, fast-paced online matches—all while still retaining the classic visuals and controls of the original fan favorite. Also comes with a hitbox viewer and a gallery mode! Rise up and throw down with players all around the world in this new evolution of the SVC CHAOS legacy!

With a roster of 36 characters, there’s sure to be a SNK or Capcom luminary for everyone. Kyo Kusanagi, Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui are some of the SNK reps, while the likes of Ryu, Chun-Li and Demitri represent Capcom. Elsewhere, the game will have rollback netcode, as well as online lobbies for up to nine players. There will also be a tournament mode, with single, double and round-robin eliminations.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Capcom re-release without a wealth of artwork and other classic pieces to view. Say what you want, but between this and theMarvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, Capcom is simply hitting it out of the park with its revivals.
