Summary

The year is 1994, andSNKhas just released a new fighting game for the Neo Geo called"The King of Fighters ‘94,“featuring characters fromFatal Fury. It’s an immediate arcade hit, and the team system is something super unique.

Now flash forward to 2024, and it’s been 30 years since The King of Fighters ‘94. Seems ripe for anniversary celebration, right? Well, that’s exactly what SNK is planning on doing, and there are apparently “various projects” prepared to help celebrate.

King of Fighters 30th Anniversary Projects

Taking to Twitter, SNK shared news of the anniversary and planned celebration, with an awesome piece of key art to match.

30 Projects To Celebrate 30 Years

Currently, there’s an official website dedicated to the anniversary (kof30th.com/en/), and per the website, 30 projects will be unveiled, presumably between now and the end of the year.

The first three projects have already been unveiled, though they aren’t particularly remarkable. Still, there are another 27 that have yet to be revealed.

SNK released The King of Fighters XV in 2022, making it the latest release in the fighting game franchise. Before that, The King of Fighters XIV was released in 2016, so it’s unlikely that a new title will be among the announcements.

That said, SNK could (and should) take a page from Capcom and release a collection of KOF entries.Several previous KOF games are available on the PlayStation Store, including KOF ‘94, and thereis a collection dedicated to the Orochi Saga (94-98), however, a master collection would certainly be a welcome treat.

Whatever ends up happening, Happy Birthday to perhaps the most underrated fighting game series of all time. Here’s to another 30 years of fighting game goodness.
