Summary
It may be hard to believe, butThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimis turning 13 years old this year. And yet, all these years later, Skyrim is still going strong. Whether it’s because of theconstant re-releases across console generations, the devoted modding community, or the fact that the game is near infinite in its scope, Skyrim is as beloved today as it was all those years ago.
But while Skyrim is a massive endeavor, one whose base version can take 233 hours to see all the way through, per HowLongToBeat, like all games, it has cut content. Some of that cut content is quest lines. Other aspects include NPCs, certain pieces of dialogue, points of interest and/or items. For one reason or the other, that content was scrapped. With that in mind,it’s the goal of modder Unorthodoggto restore all of that content and then some via hisproject Skyrim Re-Cut.
Skyrim Re-Cut Makes An Already Massive Game Even Bigger
Skyrim Re-Cut is exactly what its name implies. It takes the base game of Skyrim and adds all the cut content back to it via a series of mods, making it a “Re-Cut” title. Unorthodogg has broken the mods out by region, with each mod adding specific things to the area at large. In all, the mods help bring Skyrim closer to what Bethesda had in mind prior to making cuts.
Take, for example, the Morthal re-cut portion of his mods, it adds several cut locations and items, including an extra dungeon. It also adds Sild’s Staff as an available item, while implementing a new map marker, which adds another save state. It’s an extensive endeavor, and a massive testament to the community that Skyrim has created.
While Unorthodogg has expanded Skyrim via their mods, they don’t currently have plans to add cut quests. That’s because it’s a near impossible job due to the amount of information and missing pieces. That said, what they’ve done to this point is still an impressive feat, especially the three-pronged approach they’ve taken.
First, they’ve added back “cut” content that was referenced in files or guides, trying to emulate Bethesda’s style as much as possible. Then, they’ve added “unused” content, which helps bring content unavailable to the game. Finally, they’ve “created” content to make other decisions more logical, as well as the world as a whole flow better.
You can check out their endeavors over at Nexus Mods. There is still more to come, and they’re open to feedback if they missed something. Either way, if you thought Skyrim was already an endless game, then Unorthodogg has made it their goal to add to that feeling.
