Summary

Many have been sceptical about theSilent Hill 2 Remakeever since it was announced, and even more so after we saw footage from the game. This isn’t surprising - the original game is beloved by so many to this day, and now, we have an entirely new dev team taking the reigns on this reimagining of the classic.

However, as previews drop today, we get our first impressions from those who have actually played the remake… and it’s surprisingly positive so far. Across the board, those who played the Silent Hill 2 Remake preview are loving what they’ve seen so far, praising Bloober Team’s take on the game.

Previews For Silent Hill 2 Remake Are Surprisingly Positive

In our preview, Lead Featured Editor Jade King praised Silent Hill 2 Remake’s gameplay and presentation:

[Bloober Team] has been given an impossible task, and from a few hours with the finished product, it looks to be living up to it in ways I never could have anticipated. I’m unsure how the combat will evolve over the course of the game or whether it will make any needless changes to the narrative - new endings are now confirmed - but right now, this is about as good as I hoped this remake could be.

She wasn’t alone in feeling pleasantly surprised by how Bloober Team is approaching the remake, with Jordan Middler ofVGCalso enjoying his time with the game.

We came away from Silent Hill 2 far more confident about the remake than we were before we played it. The gameplay feels great, the game is graphically impressive, and the atmosphere of the original has been replicated perfectly.

Thomas Morgan ofEurogameragrees, feeling that it’s a worthy remake of the original Silent Hill 2.

A remake project is a delicate balancing act for any developer, it’s fair to say: stray too far from the source at your own risk, while a failure to innovate defeats the point of the whole endeavour. What I’ve seen so far of Silent Hill 2 Remake, though, shows a team determined to stick to the original blueprint first.

This is a much better position than Bloober Team found itself in previously. Earlier this month, the studio’s CEOhad to ask fans to give them “a chance”, hoping that the game will speak for itself once more can be shown off. This came afterthe new character models were met with a lot of backlash, as fans felt that it missed the point of the original game.

However, it looks like the devs are winning back some goodwill. It remains to be seen if this can be maintained until the game launches on Jun 23, 2025
