Summary

FromSoftwareis no stranger to dragons. Over the years, every game they’ve created has contained at least one dragon, or dragon-like creature, which players find themselves facing up against. These dragons have varied greatly in size, withElden Ringpushing the boundaries on just how big the beasts can be.

Up until this point, the biggest dragon in FromSoft’s repertoire was featured in their 2022 hit, with its corpse sprawled across theLeyndell, Royal Capitalregion. However, a new piece of in-depth research has found that the size of Leyndell’s dragon has been eclipsed by another corpse inShadow of the Erdtree, and by some margin.

FromSoft’s Big Dragons

Before we had Elden Ring, we had the Dragon God. A behemoth that wreaked terror over those who dared traverseDemon’s Souls’Stonefang Tunnel. Standing at over 100 feet, the Dragon God is actually consideredone of the easiest Archdemon bossesin the game, with the battle acting more as a puzzle than a true fight.

The Sultan of Chaos is a mere pussycat when compared to the biggest dragon in the Elden Ring base game, though. Laying across Leyndell, and acting as a handy pathway to reach difficult areas, the Ancient dragon Gransax is estimated to sit at around 328 metres, almost double the size of the Dragon God.

Shadow Of The Erdtree’s Unnamed One

Those who have ventured to theJagged Peak regionof Shadow of the Erdtree will likely have stumbled across another colossal dragon, leading to oft-unwelcomed size comparisons.

The beast, which has once again been felled, lies dead at theGrand Altar of Dragon Communionand can be seen depicted on the DLC’s map. Mouth agape, the beast is truly a sight to behold.

With everybody in awe at the size of this lad, the absolute unit sparkedone YouTuber to conduct deep experimentationto see if it could lay claim to the title of FromSoftware’s biggest-ever dragon, dethroning Gransax in the process.

As the dragon was very much dead,Zullie the Witchhad to be creative in their ways of sizing up the unnamed creature. Assuming the Jagged Peak’s massive dragon is just an oversized version of the drakes that reside on the peak, Zullie compared the head sizes of the beasts, finding that the Grand Altar’s dragon was roughly 10.7x larger than its diddy counterparts. Extrapolating the data, they found that the total length of the unnamed dragon was roughly 392 metres, around 20 percent bigger than the Ancient Dragon Gransax.

It’s a true giant and one that’s worthy of rounding out Elden Ring’s story. But I can’t have been the only one who tried to enter its mouth, hoping to find a mini-dungeon tucked away deep inside its corpse, right?
