Summary

In a lot of ways,Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreefeels like a spiritual successor toSekiro: Shadows Die Twice(I even wrote about that, and it’s not just because both titles feature ‘Shadow’).

There’s the Deflecting Hardtear thatadds Sekiro’s namesake mechanic, the incredibly fast-paced bosses that push you to master perfectly-timed blocks rather than pixel-perfect dodges, and even a revamped version of the Prayer Bead upgrade system. So much of FromSoftware’s modern classic bleeds into its newest expansion.

But what if you took Shadow of the Erdtree’s boss fights and injected them into Sekiro so that you could fight them with the skillset and arsenal of Wolf, rather than your Tarnished? That’s exactly whatThe Lord of Erdtreedoes, developed by Andmonika.

They Fit Surprisingly Well

The mod adds Shadow of the Erdtree’s bosses to the Reflection of Strength menu so that you can jump into an empty snow field and fight them whenever you want. In the video embedded above, YouTuber YinYangKage shows off the Consort Radahn fight, and it almost looks as though it wasdesignedwith Sekiro in mind because the deflection works so well against this infamously difficult opponent.

It’s not completely 1:1, however. While each boss retains all of their signature moves, they now succumb to Sekiro’s stagger. So, you’ll likely win by emptying their stamina bar and dealing a Deathblow rather than whittling down their health as inElden Ring. For bosses with multiple phases like Radahn, that means each phase is split into its own Deathblow.

You can also resurrect like with any other boss in Sekiro, so dying is a little more forgiving than in Shadow of the Erdtree. Frankly, this might be the easier way to take on Consort Radahn.

WHERE TO PLAY

Bringing classic FromSoftware gameplay to feudal Japan, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice sees a lone shinobi, Wolf, seek revenge. You must take on formidable bosses along the way, using all your skills to survive and conquer.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and only DLC expansion for FromSoftware’s groundbreaking Elden Ring. It takes players to a whole new region, the Land of Shadow, where a new story awaits the Tarnished.
