Summary
These days, it seems as thoughvideo game leaks are almost inevitable, asstores often break street datesand copies make their way into the wild, sometimes weeks before launch. It’s not often a completely playable build of a game leaks several months before release though, which is exactly the situation thatWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2developer Saber Interactive has found itself in.
First reported byInsider Gaming, a development build of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was uploaded to a piracy website last month, though no one is quite sure who uploaded it and why. The build itself clocks in at about 75GB and is completely playable, with only some missing strings and some placeholder assets giving away the fact that it’s an unfinished version. It can even reportedly be played with friends, which really drives home how close this build is to the finished product.
Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment are unsurprisingly in damage control mode at the moment, taking down any gameplay videos that happen to crop up on YouTube or Twitch, and now the two havemade a joint statement on Twitter addressing the leak.
Saber Urges Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Fans To Avoid Leaked Build
In the statement, Saber and Focus have described the experience as “disheartening” for many of the developers that worked on the title, and are urging fans to “avoid this unfinished build and to not spoil the game” for those that want to go in fresh. Unfortunately, the game launches on September 9 later this year, and almost two months is a long time to be dodging spoilers.
Saber and Focus will likely keep taking down gameplay videos and spoilers as best they can until release, but we and many developers know by now thatonce something is on the internet, it’s tricky to stop it from spreading. If you’re super excited about Space Marine 2 and want to go in as fresh as possible, this might be your que to start muting keywords, or just go on a social media blackout entirely if you can live without it for two months.
