Summary

While it has never been confirmed, most of us had assumed thatCapcomwas working on a newResident Evilgame. It’s far too big of a franchise to leave dormant, and given thatResident Evil Villageis almost three years old, we could safely assume that the next title was in the works. It’s nice to have it confirmed though, which is exactly what Capcom did during its recent showcase.

The reveal came at the end ofthe most recent Capcom Next showcase, following deep dives into boththe Dead Rising Remakeand Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.Resident Evil 7: Biohazarddirector Koshi Nakanishi took to the spotlight to confirm recent rumors that a new Resident Evil game is in development. He admits it was “difficult” for him to think of an idea after Resident Evil 7, but he managed to come up with something “substantial.”

Resident Evil 7: Trapped With The Family At Dinner

We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.

If you’re unfamiliar with Koshi Nakanishi’s work, he has been a big part of the Resident Evil series for a number of years. He was a designer and creative director for Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D respectively, while his step-up to director involves Resident Evil Revelations and the previously mentioned Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Resident Evil 9 Is In Development, Capcom Confirms

Like we said at the top, rumors have been swirling regarding Resident Evil 9 for quite some time, including potential settings, release windows, and more. Most of this information comes from insider Dusk Golem, who has a fairly reliable track record, and has claimed in the past that Resident Evil 9will be an open world gameseton some kind of island.

There are debates about whether the title has been internally delayed, andrelease windows of both 2025 and 2026are being thrown around, andthe claim that Resident Evil 9 will bring back Leon Kennedyas the main character is a little shaky. Still, we do need a new main character after the events of Village, but we’ll only know for sure when Capcom officially reveals the thing. If a release window of 2025 is accurate, it should be fairly soon.
