Summary
Gearboxfounder Randy Pitchford says news on the nextBorderlandsgame is coming “sooner rather than later”. He also admits that he hasn’t done a great job of hiding that the team is “working on something” Borderlands related, amidst numerous rumours and speculation about Borderlands 4.
This comes from an interview with TheGamer, in which Pitchford briefly discussed plans for new Borderlands games. Here, he says that he “can’t wait” to share what Gearbox has been working on with fans, and suggests that we could get some news soon.

Randy Pitchford Discusses The Borderlands 4 Rumours
“Oh man, I don’t think I’ve done a good enough job of hiding the fact that we’re working on something,” jokes Pitchford. “And I think people that love Borderlands are going to be very excited about what we’re working on.
“These are fuzzy words, but sooner rather than later, we’re going to be talking about what we’ve been working on, and I can’t wait.”
He continues, touching on his plans for the Borderlands series at large, across both game and film.“I think I’m genetically made to try and create joy and happiness, and build entertainment. I love movies and I love video games, I love entertainment,” he says. “So I’m grateful that we have so many great things coming with Borderlands, and I can’t wait to talk about the stuff that we’re working on with our fans.”
Pitchford isn’t kidding when he says that Borderlands 4 is a poorly kept secret. Last November, we reported that a former developer supporting Gearboxmentioned both Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2on their LinkedIn page. So, even without a formal announcement, we know a new mainline Borderlands game is in the works. Now, Pitchford isn’t even denying it.
We’ll have to wait and see which one gets announced first, but if we had to take a guess, Borderlands 4 is the more likely of the pair. After all,Borderlands 3launched back in 2019, so it’s been around five years since we got a mainline game.Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, however, launched in 2022, so we can go a few more years without a sequel.
In the meantime, there’s the Borderlands movie. After being in production for years, announced all the way back in 2015, it’s finally hitting theatres on August 9.
